Winnipeg Jets F Bryan Little will miss the remainder of the season as he continues to rehab a perforated eardrum.
The injury was suffered in November when Little took a slapshot to the ear against the New Jersey Devils. Cleared to practice last month, Little has since required a procedure to repair his eardrum that comes with a three-month recovery period.
Little has missed 43 games this season and when injured, also suffered a brain bleed, a concussion, and a gash to his ear that required dozens of stitches to close, the Winnipeg Sun’s Scott Billeck reported.
Here’s what head coach Paul Maurice said Saturday:
“(Little) has gone through a series of tests over the last couple of weeks, and while there’s been some really good improvement the feel from the medical community is the amount of time that he’s going to need to safely heal is going to take us through the rest of our hockey season.
“There’s a hope this thing’s going to heal at a certain rate and that’s going to allow you to come back and play, and that’s the player’s hope. There has been good progress in his healing, it’s just that you get a lot of tests done and you get a lot of people to look at it, the rate of healing says — and because of the injury — we’re not putting this player at any risk. We’re not going to wait until the very end and say, ‘Yeah, you’re close.’ It’s also in part to the procedure that he has to have that the smart thing for Bryan the person and Bryan the hockey player and the Winnipeg Jets is not to have him play this year.” winnipegsun.com
Little scored two goals and three assists in seven games prior to being injured.
