The Winnipeg Jets are shifting into playoff-style lockdown hockey, but being a road favorite has been far from a lock for them this season.
The Jets are -160 away favorites (bet $160 to win $100) on the NHL betting lines for Wednesday night at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com with the Anaheim Ducks coming back at +130 (bet $100 to win $130) and a 6.0-goal total. In the here and now, the Jets are on a three-game win streak. However, the Jets, who face the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday, have lost their last three games when they were also playing the next day.
The Jets are also 2-5 in their last seven games as an away favorite, while Anaheim has been a spoiler of late, going 4-1 in its last five games as a home underdog.
Winnipeg’s last three wins have each been by one goal, including a 3-2 win against the Los Angeles Kings on Monday. Kyle Connor, Kevin Hayes and Tyler Myers scored the goals.
This is Winnipeg’s only visit this season to Anaheim. The Jets have won the last three meetings, including a 9-3 victory at home in the most recent matchup on February 2.
While Winnipeg has had those issues with the front end of back-to-back games, as well as with delivering as an away favorite, they are 5-1 in their last six games against Anaheim. The total has also gone UNDER in six of Anaheim’s last 10 games as an underdog on home ice at the Honda Center, according to the OddsShark NHL Database, which might play into the hands of a Jets team whose last three games have had an average total of 5.0 goals.
Backup goalie Laurent Brossoit started the last two times that the Jets lost in the front end of back-to-back games. However, Brossoit got the win against Los Angeles on Monday, which might indicate that starter Connor Hellebuyck would get the call and increase the probability of the Jets avoiding an upset.
The Jets offense is tied for sixth in the NHL, averaging 3.4 goals per game, while Anaheim is last in the league at 2.3 goals per game. Winnipeg has the fourth-ranked power play (25.9 percent) and 23rd-ranked penalty kill (79.1 percent), while Anaheim’s special teams respectively rank 23rd (16.0 percent) and 24th (79.0 percent).
The Jets enter Wednesday one point ahead of the Nashville Predators for first place in the Central Division, with two games in hand. The Jets are in a stretch where they play five games in eight days. After Thursday’s game at Vegas, they return home to host the Predators on Saturday. The Ducks are back in action at home against the San Jose Sharks on Friday.
