The Winnipeg Jets enter their home opener with at least one consistent strength, their offence, and the fact that the same cannot be said of the Minnesota Wild might be reason to go again some trends.
The Jets are the -130 home favourite while the Wild are the +110 underdog with a 6.5-goal total on the NHL odds for Thursday at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

The season series between the Central Division rivals was one-sided last season with the Jets going 0-5 while being outscored 18-8. Winnipeg is also 7-13 over its last 20 home games at Bell MTS Place as a favourite of -125 to -150 on the moneyline. But Minnesota is 1-5 in its last 15 away games as an underdog of +110 to +150 on the moneyline.
The Wild, who are 0-2-0 so far this season, are playing for the first time in five days and may be slower out of the gate than some teams. Coach Bruce Boudreau, whose team scored only two even-strength goals in as many games, is already shaking up his lines, with physical winger Marcus Foligno reportedly moving to the first line while Zach Parise drops to the third.
The lack of chemistry might inhibit the Wild’s ability to challenge the depleted Jets defence corps, while their own back end has struggled, allowing nine goals in two games. The total has gone UNDER in six of the Wild’s last nine away games as a moneyline underdog of +110 to +150 at sports betting sites.
Devan Dubnyk should be rested to start in goal for Minnesota, but he has a below-average 3.58 goals-against average and .887 save percentage in two games.
The Jets are 2-1-1 after their season-opening four-game Eastern Conference road trip which they wrapped up by knocking off the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-1 on Tuesday. Offense has not been a problem as center Mark Scheifele and left wing Patrik Laine each have six points in four games.
The Jets are a respectable 13th in the NHL at 3.25 goals per game, which is somewhat impressive considering they have yet to have a home game or click on the power play where they rank 23rd at 11.1 percent. On the blue line, the possibility of Josh Morrissey (upper body) missing a third consecutive game is a concern, but the best defence is offence.
Connor Hellebuyck made 37 saves against the Penguins and has a 3.02 GAA and .913 save percentage after two starts. The Jets visit the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday.
