Happy Canada Day, better known in the hockey world as free agency day. Today the Jets and multiple teams will look to replace players leaving and add pieces to make their team work.
Let’s take a look of what we may see today.

Who Will Pay Big?

Part of free agency frenzy is the traditional overpays. There will be many teams looking desperate to buy and the bidding will cause some players to have huge contracts.
Who will be buying out their 2016 signings a couple years down the road?
Who will be wishing they could buy out their 2016 signings a couple years down the road?

Jets looking for LHD

Kevin Cheveldayoff is apparently looking for a left-handed shot defender, according to himself.
Many fans are hoping for a bonafide second-pairing lefty to take a top-four spot that has been vacant since Ron Hainsey’s departure. Others would just be happy for the Jets to find someone to push Mark Stuart and Ben Chiarot down one peg in the depth charts.
It is probably more likely and realistic though that Cheveldayoff looks for an Adam Pardy replacement.

Chevy is always looking for a top-nine winger

I cannot remember a time where someone asked the Jets’ General Manager, Kevin Cheveldayoff, what he would like to add if he could and he does not reply with a top-nine winger.
It seems surprising that a team looking to add to a group of Blake Wheeler, Nikolaj Ehlers, Mathieu Perreault, Patrik Laine, Kyle Connor, Drew Stafford, Marko Dano, and Joel Armia. However, Chevy seems to have room for another. If the Jets’ do get one, this likely spells out a year of the Manitoba Moose for one or both of Kyle Connor and Marko Dano.

Looking to keep Perreault

There have been reports about the Jets looking to extend Perreault. Perreault has been an amazing player that the Jets have received more value than they are paying for.
The real question though: Will Perreault be a value player after the extension?

Some big RFAs to get done

The Jets have some big name RFAs to sign this summer. While they are not a priority that needs to get completed today as soon as possible, the Jets still have work to be done. Currently the Jets need to sign:
Mark Scheifele
Jacob Trouba
Brendon Tanev
Joel Armia
JC Lipon
Adam Lowry
Brenden Kichton
Julian Melchiori
