The Jets website announced that the Winnipeg Jets have re-assigned sixteen players from training camp.
The sixteen cut brings down the Jets training camp roster from 44 to 28 (27 after excluding Grant Clitsome). Fourteen of the players move from the NHL to the AHL camp, while two were sent back to their Canadian major junior team.
The Jets sent Nelson Nogier back to the WHL to join teammate Micheal Spacek (who already has five points in two games) for the Memorial Cup hosting team. Brendan Lemieux, who had a strong camp, also was sent back to his OHL team. Lemieux will be leaned on more, moving up to the top line for the Barrie Colts after spending most of last year between the second and third.
Four players will be hitting waiver wire, as Patrice Cormier, Matt Fraser, Matt Halsichuk, and Julian Melchiori are moved down to the AHL. If they clear they will be expected to take part of the Manitoba Moose’s camp starting on Tuesday
They will be joined by Joel Armia, Eric Comrie, Chase De Leo, Brenden Kichton, Scott Kosmachuk, Jan Kostalek, Andrew MacWilliam, Josh Morrissey, and Ryan Olsen who are all on NHL contracts but free of waivers, and John Albert who is on an AHL contract with the Moose.
The Jets camp has been cut down to 15 forwards, 9 defenders, and 3 goaltenders.
