Yesterday it was reported that the Jets re-assigned Adam Lowry to the Manitoba Moose. This left the Jets with eleven forwards on their roster and a game coming up on the following Friday. The Jets did not call up any of their forwards with the Moose having a game on the Wednesday and Thursday.
With not wanting the call-up to play three games in three days, the Jets called up Matt Halischuk and Joel Armia, as reported by the Winnipeg Jets website.
Armia has been one of the few Moose to be able to create any offense. The large winger has picked up 3 goals and 5 assists over 18 games, which places him 4th in Jets forwards points per game. Armia has produced 1.72 shots per game, the sixth highest for the Moose regular forwards.
Armia has one NHL game played, where the Buffalo Sabres took on the Detroit Red Wings in what was quite the one sided match. The Sabres controlled only 26.7 per cent of shot attempts with Armia on the ice, but the team only controlled 27.6 with him on the bench. It was for games like this that many thought the Sabres were trying to protect Armia by keeping him in the AHL.
Halischuk hasn’t been able to produce as much as many expected in the AHL. The veteran forward has 3 goals and 3 assists over 24 games, placing him 10th in forwards poitns per game. His shot production has been a bit better, with his 1.63 shots per game being 8th for regular forwards.
Halischuk has played 93 games in the NHL as a Winnipeg Jet. He has produced 8 and 10 assists in that time. His 5v5 statistics include 1.19 points per sixty minutes, 46.8 Score-Adjusted Corsi percentage, and -5.24 relative Corsi.
