Report: Jets’ Prospect Jack Roslovic to defect to OHL

The London Knights acquired the OHL rights to Jack Roslovic from the Flint Firebirds in exchange for a seventh round pick, and two conditional second round picks. The conditions, of course, are that Roslovic leaves the University of Miami and signs with the Knights.

Jets Nation has been told that nothing is official yet, but Jack Roslovic is as good as gone, and will likely sign to the London Knights sometime after the Jets’ development camp (which runs July 2nd-7th).

I had heard from sources throughout the season that Roslovic was not completely happy with his demotion to Miami’s second line part way through the season. He was leading the team in points by a significant margin at the time, and with his lost ice time he saw his production drop. Roslovic eventually dropped below a point per game and became tied for team lead in points.

The Jets’ 25th overall selection in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft was part of the return package for Evander Kane, Zach Bogosian, and Jason Kasdorf. The Jets’ used this to select Jack Roslovic from the USNDTP. Roslovic picked up 26 points in 36 games, tied for the lead in points, and was a finalist for the NCHC rookie award and was named to the NCHC All-Rookie Team.

It will be interesting to see where Roslovic plays on the London Knights. The team will likely be losing two parts of their elite top line in Mitch Marner and Christian Dvorak, so there will be a spot available with Roslovic’s former USNDTP linemate Matthew Tkachuk. Whether or not he plays centre or wing is the question, as Roslovic has played both over the past two seasons.

NCAA defections to the CHL are not uncommon, and the London Knights are no strangers to acquiring talent this way.
