The Winnipeg Jets’ long stay at home might be just what they need to correct some negative trends on home ice.
The Jets are a +110 home underdog while the Predators are the -130 away favorite with a 6.5-goal total on the NHL odds for Tuesday at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. Winnipeg is 2-8 over 10 home games dating to mid-December and the Jets are also 1-5 in their last six games as a home underdog at online sports betting sites. However, so far during their three-game homestand coming out of a bye week, they have defeated the St. Louis Blues 5-2 and were narrowly defeated 2-1 by the powerhouse Boston Bruins. The Predators are 5-3 in their last eight games as an away favorite.
Predators at Jets | OddsShark Matchup Report
The road team has won seven of the last 10 games in this Central Division matchup and four of the last six meetings have finished UNDER.
The Predators are 24-20-7 this season, including a 6-4 record over their last 10 away games. Left wing Filip Forsberg has nine points in his last 10 games for a Predators team that relies on offence by committee and ranks eighth in the 31-team NHL in five-on-five shot-attempt percentage (51.8 percent). The Predators are ninth in the NHL in goals scored (3.27 per game) and 26th in goals against (3.29), but the former figure doesn’t reflect some sporadic production where they managed three goals in only two of their past eight games. On special teams, Nashville’s power play is down in 25th (16.8 percent) while the penalty killing unit is ranked 28th (74.1).
Nashville goalie Pekka Rinne has a 17-12-3 record with a 3.01 goals-against average and .898 save percentage. His most recent start was last Saturday and Rinne has a 3.63 GAA and .882 save percentage this season when he starts with two days’ rest.
The Jets are 26-23-4, including a 4-4 mark in divisional home games this season. Complementary scoring in the form of a two-goal night by third-line right wing Jack Roslovic made the difference against the Blues as, for one night at least, the Jets overcame limitations that are reflected in their 23rd-place ranking in five-on-five shot-attempt percentage (48.2 percent). Their leading lines have been showing hints of good production as left wing Patrik Laine, who plays alongside first-line center Mark Scheifele, has four goals in his last five games. The Jets are 19th in goals scored (2.92 per game) and 18th in goals against (3.08). On special teams, the power play is ranked 21st (19.0 percent) but the penalty killing unit is ranked 29th (74.1).
Connor Hellebuyck has a 22-16-4 record with a 2.72 goals-against average and .918 save percentage this season after his 38-save effort in last Saturday’s win against St. Louis. He has stable numbers when playing on two days’ rest with a 2.86 GAA and .919 save percentage, and has held Nashville to just two goals in two starts this season.
The Jets visit St. Louis on Thursday before hosting the Ottawa Senators on Saturday.
