The NHLN Notebook is a semi-regular feature of interesting hockey content from the past few days that doesn’t quite deserve its own article.
In this NHLNotebook, we look at McDavid becoming the third fastest Oiler to reach 100 points, Jordan Eberle finally getting the monkey off his back as well as a TSN Trade Bait list that is packed full of big names.

McDavid, Draisaitl get to 100

Edmonton’s dynamic duo of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl both came into last night’s game against the Florida Panthers looking to hit the 100 point mark for their short NHL careers. For Connor, his opportunity came six minutes into the game when he and Zack Kassian caught the Flordia Panthers.
Catching the Panthers on a line change, Zack Kassian came bursting into the zone along the right wing driving for the net. His set up man, Connor McDavid, carried the puck into the offensive zone then sliding a pass through three (!) Panthers as Kassian banged home his third goal of the season.

The assist makes Connor McDavid the third fastest Oiler to reach 100 career points behind Wayne Gretzky who did it in 61 games, and Blair MacDonald who reached the mark in 85 games.
Leon Draisaitl also reached his 100th NHL point last night, sending a beauty feed up the ice to Connor McDavid who made no mistake in ending the game with 2.6 seconds left in OT.

Jordan Eberle gets the monkey off his back

The struggles of Jordan Eberle this season have been well documented. As a matter of fact, the sniper hadn’t scored a goal since the OIlers lost in OT to the Buffalo Sabres on December 6th, 2016. He went 19 games before he was finally able to find the twine.
All things considering, he picked the perfect time to break out of his slump. With the Oilers down 3-2 with three minutes left in the the third period, it appeared this game was all but over. The team looked like they had the life sucked out of them in thanks to a Panthers goal by Greg McKegg with just over five minutes to go in the frame.
Jordan Eberle had an opportunity, and he took advantage of it. Busting down the right-wing, the right-shot let an absolute laser go which beat James Reimer on the short side. Simply put, it was one of the most exciting goals an Oiler has scored in a long time.
Here’s to hoping that Eberle will be able to turn it on and continue with more goal production.

TSN Trade Bait

On Tuesday, TSN released their first edition of this years Trade Bait list. The list features some big names high up on the list. Matt Duchene and Gabriel Landeskog both come in on the top five, as well as pending UFA Martin Hanzal.
When you start to go down the list, more impact players pop up. At number seven, Oiler Jordan Eberle appears on the list and right below him Kevin Shattenkirk. Rumours have circulated this week about a possible Shattenkirk to Edmonton deal.
Shattenkirk however, is the only defenceman listed on TSN’s Trade Bait list so he will surly be in high demand.
The list also features five goaltenders as TSN suggested they could all be looking for new homes. Ondrej Pavelec, Jaroslav Halak, Ben Bishop, Steve Mason and M-A Fleury all make the list.
With the deadline roughly a month and a half away, it will be interesting to see what shakes down. Who would you like your favourite team to pick up?
