NHL plans to open training camps on July 10th

On Friday morning, the National Hockey League and NHL Players Association released a joint announcement regarding formal training camps for the 24-team playoff tournament starting on Friday, July 10th, provided that they’re able to safely get back on the ice.

While we don’t yet know where the teams participating in the 24-team playoff tournament will be housed yet, hockey fans everywhere are starting to get excited about the potential for summer hockey with each new announcement. Even with today’s statement, the NHL and players have a laundry list of safety items, health concerns, and details to handle before we’re able to watch hockey again, but it’s certainly encouraging to see the levels of effort the league and players are putting in to try make it happen

As of Monday, the league is currently in Phase 2 of the return to play plan with groups of six or less able to resume voluntary workouts at their home facilities. Looking ahead at July 10th as a hopeful date for training camps to get underway gives us an idea that the NHL could be back on the ice in August provided that they’re able to do so safely. Despite the list of details that still need to be ironed out, it’s encouraging to see how quickly things are coming together as both sides seem to be collaborating towards the same goal.
