It’s time to limber up the fingers and focus the eyes as the Winnipeg Jets have announced an official NHL 19 tournament.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the gaming world, eSports is a really big deal. Most recently, Fortnite (Laine’s favourite) has become a global sensation with people of all ages and nationalities playing together for some tremendous prizes.
While NHL (also known as chel) doesn’t have the same recognition, there have been tournaments starting to pop up in the last few weeks. The Maple Leafs, Lightning, and Capitals have all announced similar projects with tournaments of their own.
In case you have no idea what I am talking about, here’s how it works.
To enter, you must be over the age of 14 and need to own either an Xbox One or a Playstation 4. Obviously you will also need a copy of NHL 19 to play against other people. The neat thing about eSports is that it can all be done from the comfort of your own home.
These tournaments are set up online. That means you can be in your own house while your opponent is in their own house. You log in and will find out what time your match is going to be, similar to any other sports tournament. When the time comes, you challenge the specific player to a match and the winner moves on to the next round.
As far as the details are concerned, there are some pretty awesome prizes that the Jets are giving away. The grand prize is a cool $4,500 plus a Jets jersey. While the money is nice, the two finalists will also get a chance to meet some of the current Jets and even play a game of chel alongside them. I don’t know about you, but I would love to play some Xbox with Ehlers and Laine.
When the tournament draws closer, we will hopefully have some more content relating to this exciting new event. For now, loosen up the hands and get ready to game your way to almost 5k.
