This morning, the Moose announced the signing of Michael Spacek to an amateur tryout.
19-year old Spacek was a 2015 fourth-round pick of the Jets and just finished up his second season with the Red Deer Rebels of the WHL.
A dynamic offensive force, Spacek has scored 139 points in 120 WHL games. Come playoffs, he’s shown he can help too scoring 25 points in 24 games.
Spacek was a part of the 2016 Rebels squad that hosted the Memorial Cup, in which he potted two assists in four games.
This will be his first stint of professional hockey in North America.
Spacek was ranked #11 in last summers JetsNation Prospect Profiles.
Here’s what HockeysFuture had to say about him:
Spacek is a mid-sized, right-shooting forward who plays an extremely intelligent game that is based on sound positioning, strong on-ice vision, a good read for the game, and an ability to manage the puck very well, rarely making plays that lead to turnovers. Despite the general lack of size, it’s very difficult to separate him from the puck and he knows just when to twist and turn his way out of trouble. A character player, Spacek tends to be someone a coach places a good bit of trust in and although his offense moving forward does seem to be a question mark, this is not because he doesn’t have extremely qualified hands and an ability to both shoot and pass at the right time. His entire game needs further maturity, but he is very sound at playing the game any way it comes and is used to being effective, though not excelling, against men in pro play.
