The Winnipeg Jets have the benefit of rest, at least, as they face one of the most potent teams from a division that’s given them fits recently.
The Jets are the +125 home underdog while the Tampa Bay Lightning are the -145 away favorite with a 6.0-goal total on the NHL odds for Friday at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. Winnipeg is 4-7 in its last 11 home games against Atlantic Division opponents and is also 1-3 as a home underdog this season. The Lightning, who were edged 3-2 by the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday, are 13-7 in their last 20 games when they played the previous day and are also 8-4 in their last 12 away games against the Western Conference. The total has gone UNDER at sports betting sites in five of Tampa Bay’s last six away games against Western teams.

Lightning at Jets | OddsShark Matchup Report

The Lightning are 28-15-4, including a 7-3 record in their last 10 games as an away favourite, with the total finishing UNDER eight times. Thanks to having perhaps the NHL’s best four-line depth, led by center Brayden Point and right wing Nikita Kucherov, the Lightning rank a strong fifth in the NHL in five-on-five shot-attempt percentage (52.9 percent). Tampa Bay is fourth in goals scored (3.53 per game) and 11th in goals against (2.89). The Lightning’s power play is second (27.7 percent) and the penalty killing unit ranks eighth (82.9).
Backup goalie Curtis McElhinney started for the Lightning in Minnesota, so starter Andrei Vasilevskiy should be good to go, with two days’ rest.  Vasilevskiy has a 23-9-2 record with 2.58 goals-against average and .916 save percentage this season, and has pretty much maintained those rate stats (2.54 / .916) when he starts with two days’ rest.
The Jets are 25-18-4 this season and their 4-0 win against the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday ended a six-game home losing streak. The two-day break could help the Jets increase the ice time of their top lines led by Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler as they try to negate the Lightning’s depth and counter-balance ranking 25th in the NHL in five-on-five shot-attempt percentage (47.7 percent). The Jets are 16th in the NHL in goals scored (3.02 per game) and 13th in goals against (2.96). Their power play is ranked 10th (21.2 percent) but their penalty killing unit is third-worst in the league at 29th (74.2).
Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck has a 21-13-4 record this season with a 2.57 goals-against average and .923 save percentage after his 41-save shutout against  Vancouver on Tuesday. Hellebuyck has a 2.39 GAA and .934 save percentage over eight starts this season with two days’ rest.
Winnipeg is idle Saturday before visiting the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday to begin a stretch of three away games in four nights.
