The Winnipeg Jets lost both games of their home and home series with the Blues as they fall this afternoon by a score of 4-1. The Blues took the lead in the first period before Winnipeg tied things in the second. However, the Blues regained their lead off a terrible line change by the Jets midway through the second period. The Blues closed things out in the third with a powerplay goal and an empty netter to seal the deal. This loss caps off a really poor last two weeks that saw the Jets go 1-4-1 in their last six games.

First Period

After a wild game on Friday night, both clubs decided to play a bit more conservative in the first period. There weren’t tons of chances from either team as they spent most of the period with the puck along the wall. Whatever scoring chances were had by both clubs were stopped by solid team defense and good goaltending.
St. Louis eventually got on the board later in the first as the Jets broke down defensively for the first time in the period. Ryan O’Reilly was left alone in front of Hellebuyck and managed to slide a rebound underneath the pad to open the scoring.
The Jets tried to answer late in the period on the powerplay, but they hit a post and a crossbar instead of the twine.
After the successful kill, the Blues headed into the first intermission up 1-0.

Second Period

The Jets seemed to gather momentum from their late powerplay in the first period as they came out in the second with a few really strong shifts. They had the first four or five shots in the period, one of which found it’s way past Binnington for the tying goal.
It came off a great forecheck by Harkins who dislodged the puck along the wall. Shaw walked in on the two on one chance and passed it across to Shore who put it in the top corner.
Much like Friday’s game, once the Jets tied the score, St. Louis picked up their play again. They controlled most of the second period and regained their lead off a really poor line change by the Jets. It was a long stretch pass that caught Winnipeg off-guard and led to a mini-breakaway for Schwartz. He beat Hellebuyck five-hole and the Blues took the lead once again.

Third Period

Down by a goal entering the third, Winnipeg was looking for anything to go their way. Instead, they got a few bad bounces and couldn’t beat Binnington early on. Midway through the period, Sbisa took a boarding penalty and the league’s worst PK went to work.
As expected, the Jets were horrible while down a man and once again let the opponent score. The penalty kill started off strong, but quickly broke down and allowed Thomas to get to the rebound all alone. He beat Hellebuyck up high to give the Blues a two goal lead.
St. Louis shut things down after that as they played clean third without giving up too many chances. The Jets did get a late powerplay, but they hit the post once again and weren’t able to convert.
The Blues added a late empty net goal to seal the deal and the Jets lose both games of the home and home series.

TL;DR Why the Jets Lost

The Jets continue to make too many mistakes during the game. A bad line change and a powerplay goal against was enough to cause the Jets to lose. On offense, the team was mainly just unlucky as they hit multiple posts and had a few scrambles that weren’t converted.

Jetsnation Top Gun

There wasn’t much that went right for Winnipeg in this game, but the fourth line managed to score the only goal of the game. That goal specifically came from the great forecheck by Harkins who knocked the puck off the stick of the defensmen and then back to Shaw to create the two on one.
For creating the only goal of the game, Jansen Harkins in today’s Top Gun.
