JNGD.S8.G80 Flight Plan: Jets Look To Tame Wild As The Tame The Central

If you’re seeing an extra amount of green on your screen tonight, don’t adjust the picture. It was announced last week that Minnesota will be hosting “Green Night” tonight against the Jets in an initiative to highlight sustainability and reducing waste (there’s a garbage joke in here somewhere, I’m sure), fans are encouraged to wear green in support.
This season the Jets have had a lot of difficulty getting around the Wild, losing all three matches in the series so far. For the final battle between these Central division rivals, Minnesota is finishing up their season and are all but eliminated, while the Jets are limping towards their post season and coming in from a back to back after last night’s overtime win against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Jets player to watch

#12- Kevin Hayes – Center

Replacing Bryan Little in an attempt to shore up the second line a bit seems to have payed off when the Jets acquired Hayes at the trade deadline. In the past 5 weeks as a Winnipeg Jet, he’s become the most productive player acquired at the trade deadline with an impressive 12 points, most of them coming in tandem with Nik Ehlers who he’s had an undeniable chemistry with since he’s come over. Last night against the Chicago Blackhawks, Hayes scored the game winning goal despite coaching staff screaming at him to get off the ice for about 30 seconds.

Last Jets game

Just last night, the Jets were taken to overtime in yet another game where a tying goal was scored in the last three minutes of the game. The game saw Toews score first, but Lowry tied it up, Jack Roslovic scored two, Byfuglien mauled a dude and ultimately, Kevin Hayes scored the overtime goal that not only got the Jets a much needed win but put set them back into first in central.

Jets Notebook

  • Blake Wheeler is one assist shy from having the most assists in a season in franchise history, he’s currently tied with Marc Savard at 69
  • Last night’s goal was the first time Kevin Hayes has scored the game winning goal in overtime

Wild player to watch

#20- Ryan Suter – Defense

One year after a season ending break to his fibula, the local chapter of the PHWA nominated Ryan Suter as their player for this year’s Masterton trophy. Suter bounced back this season scoring 7 goals and 39 assists, closing in on his record high of 51 points and ultimately becoming the team’s second all-time leading defensemen.

Last Wild game

Sunday night, Minnesota became the latest victim of the Coyotes’ sudden and unexpected run for the playoffs, losing 4-0. The Wild’s pace was slow and ultimately unable to produce goals. The game saw goals from Galchenyuk, Hinostroza and two from Josh Archibald, Darcy Kuemper saved 39 shots and earned his 5th shutout of the year.

Wild Notebook

  • The Wild have a 0.7% chance of making the post season this year
  • Minnesota is down three of their key players, Matt Dumba (upper body) and Mikko Koivu (lower body) who are both out for the season and Zach Parise who has missed the last four games with a lower body injury
