It’s been a rough week for the Winnipeg Jets, after two poorly played games against the Dallas Stars and New York Islanders, resulting in a loss against both teams. Tonight’s game pits the Jets against the Montreal Canadiens, a team that currently sits outside the playoffs but isn’t out of the race just yet. After a tough loss against Columbus that cost them a wildcard spot, Montreal will be doing whatever it takes to get their position back as the end of the regular season looms nearer. Which Jets team decides to show up tonight will be the ultimate question, will it be the team that blanked Nashville less than a week ago, or the team that failed to show up in the last two games?

Canadiens Player To Watch

#13 – Max Domi – Center

It’s been quite the year for Max Domi since moving from Arizona to Montreal in the off season. From desert climate to winter climate, and from wing to center but it seems to have ton a ton of good for the 23 year old. Domi is having a standout year and is projected to hit the 30 goal milestone by season’s end. Currently sitting at 27 goals, if he’s successful Domi will be the second Canadien to hit the mark making it the first time since 1993 that the team will have two 30 goal scorers in one season.

Last Canadiens Game

Thursday’s game was a big one for Montreal, as they continued to fight to hold on to a wildcard spot within the Atlantic division. A win on Thursday meant putting some distance between themselves and the Columbus Blue Jackets and a loss would put them on the outside looking in once more, despite an impressive five game win-streak. Unfortunately, Columbus had other plans for them and by the end of the second period, it was clear that Columbus had the upper hand, winning the match 6-2.

Andrew Shaw was named the Canadiens’ nominee for the Masterton Trophy by the Montreal chapter of the PHWA for being a “true example of perseverance, sportsmanship and determination”

Jets Player To Watch

#33 – Dustin Byfuglien – Defense

Byfuglien’s last game was February 14th when he was injured in just his 5th game back after a previous injury to his ankle in late December. While the Jet’s recent blunders cannot be attributed to the loss of Buff, it certainly hasn’t helped the team either and it will be good to have a strong physical presence back on the D line. Despite only playing 37 games this season, Byfuglien has tallied 30 points and will return to his pairing with Ben Chiarot, sending Sami Niku back to the bench.

Last Jets Game

What can you say about this game? Thursday’s match against the New York Islanders started out a really fun game with Lowry scoring just 13 seconds into the first period. While the Jets didn’t look terrible and saw goals from Trouba, Tanev and Scheifele they certainly didn’t look like the playoff team we should be seeing right now. But nevertheless they seemed to hold up against the Islanders, at least until the third period when the Jets give up three unanswered goals, giving the Isles the lead and ultimately taking themselves out of a game they should have won.
