JNGD.S8.G58 Flight Plan: Jets Look To Deliver 9th Straight Loss to the Avalanche

It seems only weeks ago that the Avalanche were a serious threat in the central division, however their now 2 month plummet to the bottom has left many Avalanche fans wondering where it all went wrong and jumping on other team’s bandwagons until next season (hello!).
The last time these central division opponents faced off was January 8th, the Jets won 7-4 due to significantly poor goal tending from Philipp Grubauer. Historically, Colorado has had a tough time in Winnipeg’s arena and this probably won’t be any different. Tonight, Winnipeg has the opportunity to further solidify their hold on 1st in the western conference and create more distance between themselves and the Preds within the Central.

Avalanche Player To Watch

#17 Tyson Jost – Center

It hasn’t been a great year for the Avalanche’s 2016 1st round pick, after half a season of struggling,  the decision was made to send him down to their AHL affiliate, the Colorado Eagles to hopefully regain his confidence and find his game again. In six games with the Eagles, he put up 3 goals and one assist before being injured right as he was called back up to the NHL. Tuesday’s game was not the triumphant return he was probably expecting, with only one shot on goal. But if there was any time to prove yourself to the team, it’s now or never.

Last Avs Game

On Tuesday, the Avalanche were visited by the Toronto Maple Leafs and it went about as you would expect if you’ve paid any attention to the Avalanche this year. A strong start that left the first period tied at 1-1, giving you just enough hope to keep watching. A second period where they deliver a soul crushing blow by allowing multiple unanswered goals and take entirely too many penalties, and then a closing frame that makes you wish your superpower was the ability to speed up time. The final score was 5-2 for the Maple leafs who unsurprisingly delivered Colorado’s 8th straight loss.

Jets Player To Watch

#55 Mark Scheifele – Center

Why Scheifele? Perhaps Jets Centerman Andrew Copp said best “He’s not stopping. He’s obviously having a fantastic year, he puts in the work on the ice, off the ice,. He’s as dialed in as it gets. It ain’t stopping now, so buckle up.”  Tuesday night’s game marked 30 goals for the top-line center and is now two goals away from his career high from 2016-2017.

Last Jets Game

Tuesday saw a pretty solid game from the Jets against the Rangers, the first period saw Mark Scheifele add goals 29 and 30 to his season. It also saw Joe Morrow mark his 1st goal of the season, and the game winning goal went to Andrew Copp who scored his 6th of the season making it 4-3 Jets. The win placed Jets in 1st place in the west and 2nd in the league behind Tampa Bay.

Jets Notebook

  • The Winnipeg Jets have their very own Valentines baby! Happy 23rd birthday Nik Ehlers!
  • Mark Scheifele is now the 12th player to reach 30 goals for this season, as well as the 5th player under 25 to do so.
