Well that certainly was a hockey game. The Jets, coming off an extended player break thanks to the NHL All-Star weekend, enter Philadelphia holding onto first in the central for dear life.

First Period

Both the Jets and Flyers came out the gates with some speed. Neither team manages much save for some decent chances and trading penalties late in the period. Laurent Brossoit comes up perfect with 11 for 11 saves, but the Jets manage only 8 shots on goal in the first.

Second Period

The Jets start the 2nd on the Power Play but don’t seem to be getting much in the way of offensive zone time. The do, however, appear to find their legs a bit on the penalty kill with 2 great chances by Brandon Tanev and Mark Schiefele. But the Flyers come up with a goal not long after the penalty is over thanks to Phil Varone bouncing in a Michael Raffl rebound. Luckily the Jets answer only a few minutes later on the power play as Jack Roslovic deflects a Jacob Trouba slap shot past Carter Hart.
The Jets can’t seem to build on the power play goal and after a very questionable missed call on a highstick on Blake Wheeler the Flyers score on a deflection from Travis Konecny to give them the lead back near the end of the 2nd period. Both teams even up on shots at 12, but Hart gets the edge by saving 11 of those shots.

Third Period

As what appears to be tradition, the Jets take an avoidable penalty at the end of the 2nd so they start the 3rd on the PK. Luckily they stave off the Flyers, but James Van Riemsdyk had other plans as he picks up a mishandled pass to Josh Morrissey to beat Brossoit to put Philly up by 2, and that’s all she wrote. The Jets continue what seems like a legacy of coming up short after an extended break but will fly out to Boston to take on the Bruins tomorrow night.

The Good…

Jack Roslovic scored his first Power Play goal of the season!

The Bad…

The Brosswall gives up his first regulation loss of the season as a starting goalie, thanks in part to a couple questionable calls going against the Jets and some equally questionable missed calls for the Flyers.

The Ugly…

I don’t think anything about this game was inherently ugly. The Jets didn’t look all that bad, just came up short once again against a team we probably should be beating.
