JN Flight Plan: Nashville Predators vs Winnipeg Jets
By KB
4 years agoThe Winnipeg Jets recently wrapped up a four game road trip where they picked up five out of a possible eight points. This week they get to enjoy some home cooking as they play three straight games at Bell MTS Place this week. Tonight’s the first game of the homestand as the Predators come to town. With Nashville sitting five points back of Winnipeg, this game is very important in the standings. Currently, both Winnipeg and Nashville are on the outside looking in as Edmonton and Vancouver have recently grabbed the wildcard spots. With both Winnipeg and Nashville desperate for two points, this should be a fun game to watch.

Last Predators Game
Nashville got off to an early lead thank to an Arvidsson goal in the opening minutes. They doubled their lead a few minutes later off a Chicago turnover and ended up leading 3-0 after the first period. They never looked back as they cruised to a 5-2 final.

Fun Predators Fact…
- With the firing of Peter Laviolette a few weeks ago, the Nashville Predators are now using just their third head coach in team history. Since coming into the league in 1998, they used Barry Trotz from 1998-2014 and then Peter Laviolette from 2014-2020. In the 22 year history of the club, only going through two coaches is absolutely outstanding.
- If you think that’s consistency, check out the list of GM’s for the franchise. Here’s a hint, there’s one person on it. Yes, David Poile has been the GM since day one in Nashville making him the longest tenured GM in the NHL.
- Last but not least, Pekka Rinne scored the first goaltender goal since 2013 as he hit the open net against the Blackhawks. This makes him the 12th goalie to ever score an NHL goal. Crazy stuff from the long-time netminder.
What They’re Saying…
“Hynes is hopefully focusing on being better on the penalty kill. Penalties are inevitable, and your team has to be reliable enough to get big penalty kills when a call doesn’t go your way or when taking a penalty is sometimes necessary.”

Last Jets Game
It was a high scoring affair as the Jets wrapped up their third game in four nights against the Bruins. The teams went back and forth all game long as Winnipeg opened the scoring only to have Boston tie it. Winnipeg scored again and Boston tied again. Then it was the Bruins turn to go ahead in the game, but Winnipeg came back and tied it. Again, Winnipeg scored the go ahead goal but then Boston tied the game again. The game of ping pong went back and forth until the Bruins finally took the lead in the third period. They scored two quick goals and were able to hold the lead to take the victory.

Fun Jets Facts…
- In the current lineup, only two players have averaged a point per game against the Predators in their career. Kyle Connor has 13 points in 13 games while Mason Appleton has one point in one game. Both Scheifele and Wheeler have had a few struggles against Nashville throughout their career.
- With his goal against the Bruins on Thursday, Andrew Copp has now reached 100 points for his career. In the same game, Laine recorded the 100th assist of his career.
- Usually a stronghold for Winnipeg, Bell MTS Place hasn’t been that way in the current year. The Jets are 10-9-2 at home this year and they’ve gone winless in their last five home games (0-4-1)
What We’re Saying…
“It’s not like Bitetto or Luca Sbisa are shutdown defensemen. It’s not like ANY of the Jets defensemen have been lock-down stalwarts on their own blueline. I get that Niku does have to work on his play without the puck, be smarter in his own end of the ice, and not get visibly frustrated to the point where it throws off his game, but what I don’t get is this feeling we get from Paul Maurice that somehow replacing Sbisa or Bitetto in the lineup with Niku seems like it would be a downgrade.”
