JN Flight Plan: Jets Continue Revenge Trip Against Leafs
By KB
4 years agoWinnipeg lost to both Toronto and Montreal at home in the last few weeks. They got revenge on Monday night against the Habs and they are looking to do the same thing to the Leafs tonight. This is the final meeting between the two clubs this season as Toronto came into Winnipeg last week and lit up the Jets for six goals. Toronto came away with the 6-3 victory, but the Jets are looking to turn the narrative this time around. With Copp back in the lineup and Niku playing again, it’s a different looking lineup than one week ago. These all Canadian matchups are always a joy to watch, so sit back, relax, and enjoy the fun.

Last Leafs Game
It was a bit of a wild ride as the Oilers took on the Leafs on Monday evening. Edmonton got off to a great start and found themselves with a large 3-0 lead in the second period. Toronto started fighting back as they brought it to within one goal, but Edmonton scored a few in the third period to take the game with a final score of 6-4. Oh, and if you haven’t heard about McDavid’s highlight reel goal yet, skip to the 3:30 mark of the highlights to see his beautiful move.

Fun Leafs Fact…
Jason Spezza has had a long career. In fact, he currently leads all Leafs players in their stats against the Jets. Spezza has played 49 games against Winnipeg and he’s scored 15 goals and 36 assists during those games. Those 51 points in 49 games gives him some really nice career totals against Winnipeg even if most of those games came with Spezza wearing a Stars jersey instead of a Leafs one.
What They’re Saying…
“The Leafs have allowed the 2nd most shots against this year in the league, and the 7th most goals. They don’t need to shutdown just the elites, they need to get everyone under control, even if trading opportunities is generally working well.”
Let’s all jump to conclusions based on the loss to Connor McDavid – theleafsnation.com
Last Jets Game
It was a strong overall game as the Jets took down Montreal 3-2 on Monday night. Jets players scored all five goals in the game, unfortunately two of those came from former Jet Ben Chiarot who let loose two great shots on Hellebuyck. Winnipeg’s penalty kill was surprisingly strong and they got contributions from newly added Andrew Copp as they climbed back into a wildcard spot with the victory.

Fun Jets Facts…
- This the first first of a back to back as the Jets take on the Bruins tomorrow night. Winnipeg has 10 back to backs this season and this marks the halfway point as its the fifth one of the year.
- Wheeler recently surpassed Kovalchuk for most points in franchise history, but he also took over Kovalchuk’s record of the most multi-point games with two assists against Montreal. Wheeler has now had 156 multi-point games with the franchise.
- Since relocating to Winnipeg, the Jets have enjoyed quite a bit of success against the Leafs. Their record is 11-6-3 over the past nine years.
What We’re Saying…
“…last night in Montreal, the Jets stuck to a familiar pattern: Get out-shot, out-chanced, lean like hell on strong goaltending from Connor Hellebuyck, get timely scoring to absolutely deflate the opposing team and get out with two points in the standings.”
