JN Flight Plan #61: Los Angeles Kings @ Winnipeg Jets
By KB
4 years agoThis game signals the end of the six game homestand for Winnipeg as they’ve enjoyed home cooking for nearly two full weeks. This was supposed to be the time for Winnipeg to rocket up the standings, but after going 3-2-0 so far, they’ve stayed in virtually the same spot as they continue to be on the outside looking in. The Kings on the other hand know exactly what type of team they have. They are currently last in the entire Western Conference and it’s clear that their contending days are over. That doesn’t mean they’re a pushover as Winnipeg has struggled in the two meetings thus far. The Jets are 0-2 after losing a pair of one-goal games to the Kings near the beginning of the year. They hope to turn the tide tonight as they need to keep winning to stay in the wildcard race.

Last Kings Game
The Kings had an exciting last game as it was the outdoor Stadium Series game against the Avalanche. The Kings were sporting some nifty silver helmets for the event as the teams played a close game from start to finish. With the game tied at one in the final minute the Kings managed to score the go-ahead goal. They also added an empty net to win the game 3-1.

Fun Kings Fact…
With a hat-trick in the Stadium Series game, Tyler Toffoli now leads the Kings in goals… Wait, nevermind. The Kings traded him away last night to the Vancouver Canucks.
The Kings are now fully in re-stocking mode as they get a prospect and a second round pick for Toffoli, who is a pending UFA at the end of the season.
As far as career numbers against Winnipeg, Kopitar takes the cake as he leads Los Angeles in all three categories of goals (9), assists (15), and points (24).
What They’re Saying…
“We sat in the middle of an literal Avalanche of Colorado fans. We were the only ones wearing black and white for two sections to our left and right and a dozen or so rows behind us.”

Last Jets Game
The Jets were able to down the Blackhawks for the second time on the homestand as they came away with the 3-2 victory. The Blackhawks scored first before Winnipeg answered with two of their own. Chicago tied it later in the second period but Nathan Beaulieu scored his first of the year to win the game in the third period.

Fun Jets Facts…
- It was a Moose reunion on the third line as Harkins, Roslovic, and Appleton made their mark against the Blackhawks. The line combined for two goals and featured a whopping 373 combined games for the Moose. Even more interesting is that all three players were drafted in the 2015 draft. Beyond that line, both Connor and Niku were also part of that same draft class.
- Along the same thought, with Chibisov making his debut last game, it gave the organization nine different players to play for both the Moose and the Jets this year.
- There was a lack of special teams play against the Blackhawks last game as neither team took any penalties. In fact, that’s the first time in franchise history that the Jets have played a game with zero penalty minutes for both sides.
What We’re Saying…
“What made the third line so good? As mentioned before, their speed into the offensive end helps them generate initial chances on net. They also have great effort along the walls to win puck battles. “
