JGD 59: Stars at Jets

The Jets take on the Dallas Stars at the MTS Centre tonight, in a game that should be more intriguing than it is.
Both the Jets and the Stars entered the season with grand aspirations — a return to the playoffs for the Jets, another shot at Cup contention for the Stars — that have since crashed down to earth. According to hockeyviz.com, the Stars have a 12% chance of making the playoffs, while the Jets trail even that at 5%. So the stakes are, um, not high tonight.
On the bright side, this game could still be entertaining! The Jets and Stars are 30th and 29th in the league for goals against; tonight’s game could easily feature a goal scored from beyond the blue line, a challenge to Darryl Sittler’s record of 10 points scored in one game, or an own goal.
No way to know without watching! Puck drop is at 7pm CT, and you can watch tonight’s game on TSN3.

  • Nothing all that surprising from the Jets lineup.
  • Stafford, Perreault, and Petan continue to make up one of the league’s least traditional fourth lines, Copp is riding shotgun with Scheifele and Laine (think his agent is happy about that?), and the third pairing of Postma/Stuart is… ooft.

  • If you’re playing Tyler Seguin as your second-line right winger you might be overthinking things?
  • The Stars have the only tandem in the NHL that can make Jets fans feel good about their netminders. Sad!
The Stars and the Jets will begin tonight’s game tied with 54 points. Watch to see who makes it to 56!
