Winnipeg (22-14-8) got back
into the win column Tuesday night, defeating the Florida Panthers 8-2 for their
tenth win of the season at the MTS. In the month of January the Jets are 3-2-1,
and currently sit fourth in the Central Division and hold the first wildcard
spot in the Western Conference.

Pavalec has been on a bit of a slide over the past 30 days, losing
four straight games, two in regulation and two in overtime, while giving up
four goals in each of those losses. Pavelec hasn’t won a game for the Jets
since Dec. 16, when he gave up just a single goal to the Buffalo Sabres.

Good news for the Jets defence, as Jacob Trouba was seen
practicing with the team in today’s morning skate, there is still no idea when
he’ll be back in the line up. But I would assume sooner than later. What does
that mean for the rest of the defence? We’ll just have to wait and see.

We all know the kind of damage Dallas’ top line can do, between
Benn, Seguin and Ritchie, the line has a combined point total of 88 points
(41g, 47a) this season. That’s a lot of firepower.

The line I do want to talk about is their second line, Jason
Spezza and Ales Hemsky enjoyed some immediate chemistry when Hemsky was traded
to the Ottawa Senators late last season. Then Hemsky signed in Dallas as a free
agent and the Stars traded for Spezza. At the start of the season Hemsky and
Spezza struggled to build off of last season’s success, but the chemistry has
seemed to reemerge as of late.

John Klingberg, the younger brother of Jet’s prospect Carl
Klingberg has been a pleasant surprise on Dallas’ defence this season, putting
up 15 points in 28 games so far and playing between 17-25 minutes per game in
every game but one this season.

The defence pairing that interests me most though is the pairing
of Trevor Daley and Jamie Oleksiak. Oleksiak is a giant presence on the ice
standing at a towering 6’7, weighing in at 250 pounds. Playing alongside Daley,
who is on pace for a career year, will be beneficial to the young giant on the
point.
