Jets Prospect Update | November 29th, 2016

Increased scoring from a few defensive prospects and Roslovic returning to the scoresheet highlight the week. Let’s see what everyone is up to in the prospect update.

Jansen Harkins put up an assist this week. The Cougars were shut out by Flyers draftee Carter Hart and the Silvertips on Saturday and lost 6-3 the next night to the Winterhawks. 

Matteo Gennaro picked up an assist in each game played, including an assist off a won faceoff that allowed Micheal Zipp to score the Teddy Bear Toss goal on Saturday.

Jordy Stallard had a similar week, but scored both assists on Friday against Moose Jaw. Stallard was the primary assist on Vladislav Yeryomenko’s first WHL goal.

Michael Spacek has blown by his point total from the World Junior break last year (30 points/30 games) with three points this week. Along with his goal-scoring ability, Spacek has shown off his dynamic playmaking this season.

Logan Stanley had the most productive week of his junior career, scoring once and adding two assists in three games played. Stanley was called for slew footing at the midway point of the game last night and was assessed a 5 minute major and game misconduct. I recorded a video of the incident which can be found on Streamable.

Luke Green skated in two games this week and came away with an assist. I had indicated last week that Green was stuck on the third pairing, but that seems to have changed very suddenly. Green was on the top pairing with Chabot last Wednesday and second pairing on Friday. The Sea Dogs could be shuffling defencemen around due to Zboril’s suspension, as even Chabot somehow ended up playing third pairing on Friday.

Mikhail Berdin started twice this week, recording a loss on Wednesday and a win on Friday. Berdin stopped 28 of 30 in the loss and stopped 22 of 25 for the win. He also recorded his first point, an assist, on Friday. Unfortunately, the Sioux Falls broadcast was showing a replay of a save at the time so there is no video of his assist. From what I could hear, Berdin came out of his net and shot the puck up to Eric MacAdams who scored on the rush.

CJ Franklin and Minnesota State had the week off and Matt Ustaski was scratched in both of Wisconsin’s games.

Tucker Poolman continued his point-per-game pace with a goal and an assist this week. Poolman let another bomb go from the point on Saturday. He is fourth on the team in scoring and leads the North Dakota defence in scoring by a whopping eight points.

Erik Foley had a rare pointless night on Friday, but followed it up with a goal on Saturday on a great individual effort. Foley still leads Providence in goals, assists, and points.

Mason Appleton was held pointless two games in a row for the first time this season. Appleton was ejected in the third period of Friday night’s game for a hit to the head.

Jack Glover was, once again, only in the lineup for one of the two games Minnesota played this weekend. Glover was not a factor in the game.

Pavel Kraskovsky scored the first goal of the game for Lokomotiv on Wednesday and added an assist two nights later. 

Sami Niku recorded a secondary assist in back-to-back games and is currently on a three-game point streak. Niku had five shots on goal on Thursday but did not record a single shot on Saturday, only the third time this season he has been held to zero.

Jacob Cederholm played another two games for IK Pantern and was +2. It is still unclear if his Allsvenskan loan is ending shortly. HV71 coach Johan Lindblom states they are in constant contact with Jacob and would like to have him home for Christmas. He continues, stating he is getting lots of ice time with Pantern and that HV71 has strong competition on defence with 2017 draft-eligible Erik Brännström showing incredible promise.

The Manitoba Moose won two and lost one this week, holding onto third place in the Central Division. Jack Roslovic is back on the scoresheet with three points this week after a six game point drought.

Chase De Leo scored a fantastic overtime winner on Saturday in a 4-3 win over the Admirals.

While he is not a Jets prospect, Dan DeSalvo has surely done enough to earn himself an AHL contract. DeSalvo is currently on a tryout with the Moose and has recorded 10 points in 8 games. He is already tied for third in team scoring.

Jamie Phillips padded his win totals this week, adding two more for 13 (!) wins on the season. Phillips stopped 27 of 30 on Wednesday in a 4-3 win, and stopped 21 of 22 and all three shootout attempts on Saturday in a 2-1 win.
