Jets Prospect Update – November 1st, 2016

A solid week for Jets goaltending prospects highlight this week’s prospect update. Let’s check up on how everyone performed after the break.

Jansen Harkins started the year as an assist machine. This week, his goal scoring took over as he scored 3 goals in 3 games. His best game of the week was a 2 goal, 1 assist game against the Kootenay Ice. 

Matteo Gennaro rebounded this week with 3 assists in 2 games played, although all three were secondary assists. He improves to a point per game on the season.

Jordy Stallard was the overtime hero on Saturday for the Hitmen while adding an assist, leading them to a victory over Jansen Harkins’ Cougars. Stallard also scored the previous night in a 5-2 win over the Oil Kings.

Michael Spacek continued his strong start, notching a goal and 4 assists this week. Spacek’s point streak came to an end on Saturday in Lethbridge, as he was held scoreless in a 6-1 loss. He spent last Wednesday setting up his teammates against the Wheat Kings, and scored a fantastic top shelf goal Friday.

Logan Stanley recorded an assist this week, contributing to a 5-4 OT win over the Battalion. He fired a wrist shot on net, causing a scramble that led to a goal. Stanley has directed an average of 2.4 shots per game on net (22 total), and it is my belief we are overdue for his first goal of the season.

Luke Green notched two assists on Wednesday, but was held scoreless the rest of the week. Green was one of two players held off the score sheet in a 10-3 win on Friday.

Mikhail Berdin is the MVP of this week’s prospect update. Berdin set a Sioux Falls Stampede record on Friday, stopping 59 of 60 shots faced including a 3 on 0 rush. Yes, a 3 on 0.

CJ Franklin is back on the score sheet this week, recording an assist. Franklin has been playing centre for the Mavericks. This season, he is 81/172 on the dot for 47%.

Tucker Poolman had a rare pointless weekend, recording 4 shots as Minnesota Duluth took both games at home.

Jack Glover dressed for only his second game this season, suiting up for one of Minnesota’s two games this weekend. Glover was scratched for the weekend opener in Clarkson in favour of Lightning D prospect Ryan Zuhlsdorf. As confirmed by Nate Wells (SB Nation College Hockey writer) below, it does not appear to be for health reasons.

Erik Foley continues to produce, scoring a goal and adding two assists this weekend. His first assist was a nice cross-crease pass on the powerplay against Boston College. Foley followed this game up with a goal and an assist against Brown.

Mason Appleton made the most of his one game this week, recording two beautiful assists against the Princeton Tigers. Appleton also record 3 shots in the game.

Pavel Kraskovsky recorded a secondary assist on a goal by Leafs second rounder Yegor Korshkov. Kraskovsky throws a nice stretch pass up to Polunin allowing him to set up Korshkov in front of the net. Unfortunately, the KHL does not allow me to upload highlights but here is the play below. 

Sami Niku recorded a secondary assist on Saturday, helping JYP to a 3-1 win over Kärpät. Niku was +2 and recorded 8 shots over two games.

Jacob Cederholm dressed for two games for IK Pantern this week, recording one shot and one block. Cederholm logged 16:27 in icetime last Wednesday, and got up to 22:40 in his game last night.

The Manitoba Moose recorded back to back wins this weekend against San Diego. Chase De Leo recorded his first goal of the season and fed Scott Kosmachuk for the overtime winner on Friday. Eric Comrie stopped 27 of 29 for the win.

Julian Melchiori also scored his first of the season this weekend on nice slap shot from the point. Jan Kostalek would find the back of the net 3:42 later on an equally nice snap shot wide open at the point. What was thought to be Peter Stoykewych’s first AHL goal was later given to Nic Petan, which gave the Moose a 5-4 lead in the 3rd.

Axel Blomqvist was assigned to the Tulsa Oilers on Thursday, but has yet to see game action.

Jamie Phillips recorded his astounding sixth (!!) straight win to begin his ECHL career. Phillips stopped 42 of 44 shots Tuesday night and followed that up by saving 34 of 36 on Friday. He improves to a 2.44 GAA and 0.918 SV%. Highlights of Tuesday’s game against the Allen Americans can be seen below.
