Jets Prospect Update | December 6th, 2016

Fantastic showings in the WHL, a couple World Junior invites, and Roslovic’s rookie season highlight this week’s prospect update. Welcome to week eight of our updates, let’s see how everyone fared on the ice!

Jansen Harkins was on fire this week, with a goal and four assists in five games played. Harkins had a goal and an assist last Tuesday and followed up with a three assist game on Friday night, but was held pointless on Saturday in a 2-1 loss.

Matteo Gennaro potted a couple more goals, bringing him up to eight on the season. Five of Gennaro’s eight goals have come on the powerplay this season. He is currently on pace for a 75 point season, which would be a large improvement on last year’s 43 points.

Jordy Stallard added three assists to his point total this week, placing him second in Hitmen team scoring behind Matteo Gennaro. Stallard and Gennaro are two of the few bright spots on a struggling Hitmen team (8-14-2).

Michael Spacek continues to show off his playmaking skills, adding five more assists to his point total. Spacek played a key role in providing the Rebels a couple extra points, assisting on two overtime game winners.

Logan Stanley ended up serving a two-game suspension for his slew foot last week. Stanley got into one game on Sunday at the Joe Louis Arena; he was -2 in a 3-2 OT win with 2 shots on goal.

Luke Green had a busy week on a four game road trip, and came away with an assist. The QMJHL box score credits him as the only primary assist, but reviewing the play, it was a secondary assist breakout pass.

Mikhail Berdin started one game this week, stopping 27 of 29 shots in a 6-2 win over the Fargo Force. Berdin and the Stampede play five games in the next two weeks.

CJ Franklin recorded a pair of assists on Friday in a 7-3 win and added a goal on Saturday in a 5-5 tie with Alaska. Franklin was left wide open midway through the 3rd period to tie the game.

Tucker Poolman and the Fighting Hawks played once this week at Madison Square Garden in the “College Hockey Showdown”. Poolman went pointless and was -2, but North Dakota won the game 4-3.

Erik Foley was held off the score sheet in two games this week, both low-scoring affairs against Boston University. Foley recorded six shots. If you wish to see Foley in action, the full game from December 3rd can be viewed on Boston University’s Livestream page. 

After impressing at camps over the summer, Foley was invited to the USA World Junior Preliminary Camp on Monday.

Mason Appleton and Michigan State played an exhibition game against the U18 US National Development Program, coming away with a 5-1 win. Appleton recorded a goal and an assist.

Matt Ustaski was scratched on Friday, but dressed for his first game in two weeks on Saturday. In his limited playing time, Ustaski did manage to put 3 shots on net and won 7 of 8 faceoffs.

Jack Glover, also a victim of healthy scratches, played one of two games this weekend against Ohio State. Glover recorded his second assist of the season along with a shot and a block in an 8-3 win.

Pavel Kraskovsky recorded an assist on Sunday night in a 7-1 win over Barys Astana, assisting on Brandon Kozun’s hat trick goal. Over the three games this week, Kraskovsky was 17 for 30 on the faceoff dot (57%) but only had a single shot on net.

Sami Niku did not record a point this week, and continues to be unlucky offensively. Niku recorded 10 shots on goal and averaged well over 20 minutes per game.

Jacob Cederholm continues to play with IK Pantern, playing in two games and getting two shots on net. Cederholm should be returning to HV71 at some point this month, but could very well be loaned out again.

The Manitoba Moose played three games this week, winning two. The pair of wins leaves the Moose sitting third in a tightly contested Central Division.

Jack Roslovic continues to impress in his rookie AHL season, putting up another four points this week. Roslovic displayed incredible vision in an interception for a goal on Wednesday and a no-look pass to DeSalvo for the game winner on Sunday.

Roslovic was invited to the USA World Junior Preliminary Camp along with Erik Foley and it is expected the Moose will let him play given he makes the cut.

Jamie Phillips only got into one game this week, but continues to dominate at the ECHL level. Phillips stopped 30 of 32 leading to his 14th win of the season. Phillips is top 10 in the league in SV% and GAA and is far and away the wins leader (there is a three-way tie for 2nd with nine wins).
