Jets Nation Recap: Jets Down Canucks, 2-1

It wasn’t the highest-scoring affair Sunday, but the Winnipeg Jets busted out of a two-game slide, defeating their non-playoff-bound foes, the Vancouver Canucks, 2-1.

Though there were some low points in this game (mainly the beginning), it was an overall pretty decent game for the Jets. Let’s take a look at the positives, and go over everything to take away from Winnipeg’s 2-1 victory.

The most impressive part of Sunday’s win was the power play. Though the Jets’ 17.8 percent success rate on the man advantage is the 10th worst in the NHL, they looked phenomenal Sunday, going 2-for-2 and making the most of their opportunities.

Matthieu Perreault was an absolute powerhouse for the Jets on the power play, tying the game in the first period and then setting up Adam Lowry with a sick pass in the third. He acted as a catalyst and finished with three shots on net. Perreault continues his hot run of late, extending his point streak to six games. Over that span, the 29-year-old centre has four goals and 10 points.

Blake Wheeler also had an impressive game, putting up a couple of helpers and being heavily involved. He put four shots on net and had three hits, and was a big reason for the Jets’ physical domination over Vancouver all night. Wheeler also wasn’t afraid to spit a few curse words, but we still love him.

Michael Hutchinson was also phenomenal in net, stopping 28 of 29 shots, and was on his A-game during this incredibly close game. Though he wasn’t too busy after the first period, he still made key saves and made sure to stand tall against the Canucks.

The Jets also did a great job of staying out of the box, and when they were on the penalty kill for one time, they limited the Canucks to just two shots on goal. Not only that, but Winnipeg also dominated in the dot, winning over half of the faceoffs.

Overall, it was a great game for the Jets; the only negative was in the first period. The team surrendered a goal toward the end of the first and was being outshot and outplayed to start the game. However, they turned it around and took over in the second period, putting 15 shots on net.
