It’s been a long journey, but we are finally at the end of our Line Dancing series. It’s been a blast going through various options that the Jets have heading into the season and seeing how the puzzle might get pieced together for game one. One of the things that always amazes me about this series is the difference of opinion between people. Today we are featuring some of your submissions and they provide a wide variety of ideas and options for the team.

SCENARIO 16:

Likelihood: 1/10
Fun factor: 4/10
This is similar to my 12th scenario where the top two centres are flipped. Whether you call Scheifele’s line or Wheeler’s line ‘number 1’ it doesn’t really matter. In this case however, the third line keeps Lowry and Copp together as they add Roslovic to the other side.
Also, in an interesting turn of events, Mathieu Perreault makes an appearance at centre ice. This is an intriguing idea as the Jets could be looking for someone to fill that fourth line centre role. Mark Letestu shouldn’t be that person and David Gustafsson will likely play one more year overseas, so maybe Perreault can fit the bill of the fourth line centre. In this case, he has Vesalainen and Appleton on his wings which would make for a fairly weak but offensive minded fourth line.

SCENARIO 17:

This scenario looks to really spread out the scoring and provide three full lines that would be able to score. In theory, this would work really well as each line includes someone who can drive the play along with a player who can be defensive and a player who can score.
It’s a really good mix overall and I think this lineup would fare really well against most competition.
The fourth line also includes training camp sensation David Gustafsson playing on the fourth line between Appleton and Roslovic. It’s a really young fourth line, but they would be able to get sheltered with such a strong lineup ahead of them.
Overall, this might be one of my favourite combinations to date.
Likelihood: 4/10
Fun factor: 8/10

SCENARIO 18:

This option features a slightly different look in the top six as Wheeler and Scheifele are separated with Ehlers moving up to the top line. This top six could work well together as both lines would be dangerous in the offensive end.
Although Chibisov recently got sent down to the Moose, he might be back in a Jets uniform later in the season if injuries arise. He had a strong preseason and looked like he had some potential to become a full time NHL player. Adding him to an already big line with Lowry and Copp would make them a nightmare for opponents. They would have a massive size advantage and would likely dominate possession against most other teams.
Likelihood: 1/10
Fun factor: 6/10

SCENARIO 19:

There were glimpses of some of these lines during last season as Laine spent some time with Lowry and Copp in an effort to round out his defensive game. If Laine could improve his overall game and become a better defensive option, this line with Copp and Lowry could become dominant. If not, Laine would likely end up in frustration over a lack of scoring chances playing with two players that aren’t known for their offensive abilities. Both Copp and Lowry have the ability to contribute on offense, but we haven’t really seen it over an 82 game season yet.
The rest of the lines are fine, even with Gustafsson on the fourth line with Perreault and Appleton. Perreault is a great person to pair with a younger player due to his ability to make his teammates better.
Likelihood: 4/10
Fun factor: 5/10

SCENARIO 20:

This combination features the same top three lines as scenario 16, but it features a unique fourth line including Joona Luoto for the first time in the series. Although Luoto is not likely to play in game one of the regular season, he also had a really good training camp and will look to make his mark in the NHL this season. He could be a valuable bottom six piece and would likely feel comfortable in the lineup as he grew up alongside Patrik Laine in Finland.
Who knows, maybe Luoto keeps developing and they end up as linemates a few years down the road. Crazier things have happened…
Likelihood: 1/10
Fun factor: 4/10
That brings us to the end of our Jets Line Dancing series. It’s always one of my favourite areas to look at each season as speculation runs wild during the weeks leading up the season. This year in particular there was much more uncertainty until the very end of camp as Laine and then Connor finally signed new deals for the year. As mentioned before, everybody has their own unique opinion when it comes to line combinations. There’s endless possibilities that could work, but in reality, it’s all up to Maurice and what he thinks is best. He’s been called out for his decisions in the past, but something tells me he’s a little more likely to shake up the roster this season. In the meantime, let’s keep speculating as we anticipate Thursday’s season opener against the Rangers.
