Bettors should be aware that the Winnipeg Jets are testing the threshold of the law of averages when it comes to being a fairly heavy road underdog.
While they are on a five-game road win streak, the Jets are the +145 underdog while the Dallas Stars are a -165 home favourite with a 5.5-goal total on the NHL odds for Thursday at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The Jets are 10-1 in their last 11 away games as a moneyline underdog of +130 to +160 at betting sites, with the total finishing UNDER in four of the five most recent games in that sample.
Dallas is 13-4 in its last 17 regular-season home games as a -150 to -180 moneyline favourite, with the total finishing UNDER in seven of the last 11 games.

Jets at Stars | OddsShark Matchup Report

The Jets are 13-8-1 this season, including an 8-3 record away from home. Winnipeg rates 20th in the NHL in five-on-five shot-attempt percentage (49.43 percent) as both the Mark Scheifele-Kyle Connor-Patrik Laine and Blake Wheeler-Nikolaj Ehlers-Jack Roslovic lines have been relied on to cobble together offense for a team ranked 26th in goal scoring (2.68 per game). The Jets are 12th in goals against (2.91), while on special teams, their power play ranks 23rd (16.7 percent) and their penalty killing ranks 26th (74.5).
Connor Hellebuyck, who is 10-6-1 with a 2.35 goals-against average and .930 save percentage, has been a workhorse in Winnipeg’s net.
The Stars are 12-8-2 and have won 11 of their last 13 games, largely on the margin of one of the NHL’s stingiest defences. The top Dallas line of Justin Dowling, Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin have been potent lately, combining for 16 points over their last four games, but overall Dallas rates 19th in the NHL in five-on-five shot-attempt percentage (49.62 percent). The Stars are 22nd in goals scoring (2.77 per game) but their goals-against record is second (2.36) in the league. Their special teams efficiency parallels their entire game, as the power play ranks 26th (14.1 percent) and the penalty killing unit ranks ninth (84.0).
As this is a divisional game, Ben Bishop, who is 7-5-1 with a 2.20 goals-against and .928 save percentage, is likely to start in goal for Dallas.
The Jets are home against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday.
