Having their top-end stars apparently back in form gives the Winnipeg Jets a chance to improve their interconference record as they begin a crucial Eastern Conference swing. The Jets are the-140 away favourite while the Ottawa Senators are the +120 home underdog with a 6.5-goal total on the NHL odds for Thursday at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
The Jets are 6-6 in away games against the Eastern Conference this season, with the total finishing OVER eight times. The total has also gone OVER in their last four games as an away favourite. The Senators are 4-7 in their last 11 games as a home underdog, but have won three of the last four matchups in that sample. Five of the last six Ottawa-Winnipeg matchups have gone OVER at online betting sites.

The Jets are 31-25-5 this season, including a 6-3 record so far in February. Center Mark Scheifele and right wing Blake Wheeler have been reunited on a top line and both had multi-point efforts during a 6-3 win against the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday. The Jets rank 24th in the 31-team NHL in five-on-five shot-attempt percentage (48.3 percent) but have averaged 3.33 goals across their last nine games. Winnipeg are 17th in goals scored (2.98 per game) and 13th in goals against (3.00). On special teams, the power play is ranked 21st (19.3 percent) and the penalty killing unit is ranked 27th (75.7).
Connor Hellebuyck, who has a 26-18-5 record with a 2.71 goals-against average and .919 save percentage, has started the Jets’ last five games. Backup Laurent Brossoit, who has a 5-7-0 record with a 3.48 GAA and .888 save percentage, has not played since Winnipeg’s win against Ottawa on February 8 but is probably in line for at least one start during the Jets’ four-game, six-day road trip.
The Senators are 21-28-11 overall, but are 1-4 at home against the Central Division. Thursday’s game is the fifth in a six-game homestand for Ottawa, with the first four having had an average of 7.25 goals. The Senators’ attack led by centre Jean-Gabriel Pageau and right wing Anthony Duclair is coming off a season-best goal output in a 7-4 win against the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday, but Ottawa is 27th in the league in five-on-five shot-attempt percentage (47.5 percent). Ottawa is 23rd in goals scored (2.72) and 28th in goals against (3.32). Their power play is ranked 28th (15.5) and the penalty killing is ranked 21st (78.6).
Veteran goalie Craig Anderson, who has a 9-13-2 record with a 3.22 goals-against average and .900 save percentage, has started Ottawa’s last two games. Backup Marcus Hogberg, who is 3-6-7 with a 2.96 GAA and .911 save percentage, did not complete his most recent start on February 15.
The Jets’ eastern road trip continues with back-to-back matinee matchups against the Philadelphia Flyers and Buffalo Sabres on Saturday and Sunday.
