The Winnipeg Jets have delivered betting value recently when the odds are stacked against them on the road.
The Jets are a +135 underdog against the -155 favourite Florida Panthers with a 6.5-goal total on the NHL odds for Thursday at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The Jets, who are coming off a 4-0 home defeat against the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday, are 10-4 in their last 14 road games as an underdog of +125 or more on the moneyline at online betting sites. The Panthers are 9-9 in their last 18 home games when they have gone deeper than -140 into minus money. The total has gone OVER in the Panthers’ last four home games against the Western Conference.

Jets at Panthers | OddsShark Matchup Report

The Jets are 10-8-1 so far this season, although they are performing slightly better away from home where they are 5-3-0. Whether Winnipeg can continue its road-underdog trend depends on whether an attack led by Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler can, at least for one night, match up with the high-scoring Panthers. The Jets rank 14th in the NHL in five-on-five shot-attempt percentage (50.29 percent), but due in part to struggling special teams they are 26th in goals scored (2.58 per game) and 17th in goals against (3.00). As noted, the Jets’ power play ranks 23rd (16.7) and the penalty killing unit ranks 29th (72.5).
Connor Hellebuyck, who is 8-6-1 with a 2.40 goals-against average and .928 save percentage, has made four consecutive starts for the Jets.
The Panthers are 9-4-5 and come in after a team-record five-goal comeback win against the Boston Bruins on Tuesday. The Aleksander Barkov-Jonathan Huberdeau-Evgenii Davodov first line is one of the league’s best and a major reason why Florida is seventh in the NHL in five-on-five shot-attempt percentage (52.17 per cent). The Panthers, who have had the total go OVER in seven of their last 10 home games, stand fourth in goals scored (3.56 per game) but are a corresponding 28th in goals against (also 3.56). On special teams, their power play ranks seventh (24.6 percent) and the penalty killing unit ranks 15th (81.6).
Panthers No. 1 goalie Sergei Bobrovsky, who is 6-3-4 with a 3.52 goals-against average and .881 save percentage, got an early hook against Boston on Tuesday. Sam Montembeault, who is 3-1-1 with a 2.96 goals-against average and .903 save percentage, backstopped Florida to the comeback win against the Bruins.
The Jets continue their four-game road trip against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday.
