Welcome back to another weeks edition of the IceCaps Recap where we cover all of the news and statistics of your St. John’s farm team. This week the IceCaps managed an impressive 6 of 8 points thanks to the outstanding effort of Hellebuyck posting a long shutout streak!
Read on for all the details.

The Statistics

The IceCaps earned a few points this week which brings their winning percentage close to .500. The improvement appears to be driven by a boost in special teams, more specifically in their power play efficiency. The IceCaps remain in 5th place in the division but did jump in the conference and league standings.

Friday’s 1-8 Loss vs Portland

[ IceCaps Review ] [ Highlights ]
Not a great game for the IceCaps – they were outplayed and their goalies decided not to show up.  Hellebuyck earned a Really Bad Start and was pulled 16 minutes into the game. Relief ECHL goaltender Jussi Olkinura came into the game and did not perform much better. Carl Klingberg was the one positive take away from the game and at least MacKinnon made sure the IceCaps were not shut out (Moral Victories!!).

Saturday’s 1-0 Win vs Portland

[ IceCaps Review ] [ Highlights ]
The next night the IceCaps were able to extract their revenge on Portland by shutting them out and walking away the winner in regulation time. Hellebuyck made up for the night before by being perfect, O’Neill had the lone goal and Albert earned the third star on the night.

Tuesday’s 3-0 Win vs Hartford

[ IceCaps Review ] [ Highlights ]
Connor Hellebuyck continues his shutout streak of over 120 minutes with a second game in a row not allowing a goal against. The IceCaps outplayed Hartford and received the PDO for a best case scenario where they were able to win 3-0.

Wednesday’s 5-4 SO Win vs Hartford

[ IceCaps Review ] [ Highlights ]
Hellebuyck’s shutout streak ended after 133 minutes.  The IceCaps came from behind after trailing 2-4 at the beginning of the 3rd to tie up the game and send it to overtime.  The game eventually went to the shootout where the IceCaps won thanks to a goal from JC Lipon.

Schedule

A lighter load this week for the IceCaps with only two games. They are playing a back-to-back but against the same team. They have the home-team advantage, but then again Worcester is one of the top performing teams in the AHL and they have been fairly steady at their performance.
