Four Games in Six Days Ahead for the Jets, Again.

A home-and-home against the Capitals, a back-to-back in Washington and Detroit, and a third game in four nights in the hallowed home of the league’s highest scoring team. After grabbing three points in a tough week, things should get better moving forward, right? Maybe not so much.

The Jets will follow the same Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday formula again, this time getting Dallas at home, then back-to-back in Arizona and Colorado, before flying home to face the LA Kings on Sunday afternoon. Two division games against the 4th and 6th place teams in the Central (Jets sit in-between in 5th), the .500 Kings (though they’re heating up) and the last-place Coyotes shape up to a perhaps easier week and the Jets are probably hoping to get more than 3 points.

The Jets could be getting some help back from sick-bay as reports have Tyler Myers, Mark Stuart, and Matthieu Perreault possibilities for Tuesday’s game against Dallas. The Jets are 1-1 against the Stars this year, splitting the home-and-home earlier in the season and will be facing a team about as banged up as they are. The Stars are missing six players of their own, though there is some thought that Jason Spezza may be able to go tomorrow. The Stars are sitting at 4-5-3 after losing to Chicago in OT yesterday, and they’ve won once in their last six outings.

The Arizona Coyotes also have 4 wins so far this season, but they have 8 regulation losses to go with them. Their 8 points put them in the basement of the Pacific Division but they’ve won 3 out of 5 after having lost 5 in a row. Oliver Ekman-Larsson leads the team with 5 goals and right-winger Brad Richardson has 8 pts. Behind the league’s youngest-ever GM in John Chayka, these Coyotes are also very, very young, with an average age of 25.96 years old (compared to the Jets at 25.33, according to eliteprospects.com). Thursdays outing should be one full of all sorts of young talent.

Friday sees the Jets in another back-to-back situation, as they try and stay ahead of the Colorado Avalanche in the Central Division standings. The Avs currently sit at 5-6-0 and are one point behind Winnipeg, though they’ve played two less games. The only meeting between these two so far this year saw Michael Hutchinson put up a 37 save shutout as the Jets won 1-0 on October 28 at the Pepsi Centre in Denver. 

Off of a back-to-back game Friday night in Colorado’s Mountain Time Zone, the Jets have another short turnaround with a Sunday afternoon game in Winnipeg against the Los Angeles Kings. Currently sitting at 6-6-0, the Kings have won two in a row after beating Pittsburgh in overtime and shutting out the Calgary Flames 5-0 on Saturday night. The Kings have been streaky this season as they lost their first three, then won their next four (all in extra time), and then losing three more before starting their current streak. The Kings are down to their third string goaltender as both Jonathon Quick and Jeff Zatkoff are on IR, though there is thought that Zatkoff could be back by the week’s end. The Kings have been rumoured to have kicked tires on the Jets’ Ondrej Pavelec (currently playing in the AHL with the Manitoba Moose), but have been getting by with Peter Budaj, who is 6-3-0 with a .913 SV%. Former Winnpeg Jet Devon Setoguchi scored his first two goals of the season against Calgary on Saturday as he tries to resurrect his career.
