The Winnipeg Jets’ series-tying win extended their playoff stay for at least 48 hours, but it might be telling that it hasn’t generated much moneyline movement.
The Jets are the +130 underdog while the Calgary Flames are the -150 favourite with a 5.5-goal total on the NHL odds for Tuesday at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The Jets are 2-6 in their last eight games that came after playing the previous day, with the total finishing OVER in five of those matchups. The Flames were 5-4 on the second night of back-to-back games during the 2019-20 regular season, with the total finishing UNDER in five of those nine matchups.

The underdog Jets prevailed 3-2 on Monday to tie the best-of-five qualifying round at 1-1. It was the 12th time in the last 15 games in this matchup that the total has gone UNDER at betting sites. The Jets are 5-8 in their last 13 games as an underdog of +120 or more.
The Flames have started rather slowly in both of the series’ games so far, failing to score a first-period goal. On Monday, led notably by left wing Johnny Gaudreau, they generated a greater volume of offence than the Jets with 53.13 per cent of the scoring chances during five-on-five play, according to Natural Stat Trick. Young forward Dillon Dube also graded out well in limited playing time and could be a value play in goal scoring props.
On special teams, Calgary has had the advantage, going 2-for-10 on the power play to the Jets’ 1-for-13 with a shorthanded goal allowed. On the back end, the Mark Giordano-T.J. Brodie first defence pairing has not been as effective thus far as the Rasmus Andersson-Noah Hanifin duo. Goalie Cam Talbot has a 2.03 goals-against average and .909 save percentage through two games.
In Game 2, Winnipeg fed off the emotion after losing top forwards Mark Scheifele (left leg/ankle) and Patrik Laine (hand/wrist) two days earlier. It should be interesting to see if that can be replicated without the obvious imperative of having a point to prove after losing two stars. The Jets will have to continue to get strong contributions from the top three lines centered by Andrew Copp (who moved into Scheifele’s first-line spot), Cody Eakin and Adam Lowry, the latter of whom has factored into three of their four goals in the series. One factor to consider after 23 power plays were awarded in the first two games is whether the officials will loosen their standards. That scenario would seem to favour the physical Flames.
