We’re into the final week of the NHL regular season already, can you believe it? The Winnipeg Jets are set to take on the Seattle Kraken tonight, with a chance to clinch home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. The Jets sit one point ahead of the Colorado Avalanche for second in the Central division. The Jets need just a single point to clinch second in the division, owning the tie breaker over Colorado. A six-game win streak is also on the line for the Jets, who look to make it a seven-game win streak as the regular season comes to a close.
At practice yesterday, Rick Bowness was asked about the importance of clinching home ice advantage, and said
“All of our focus is on tomorrow night’s game, that’s all we’re focusing on. Take care of business tomorrow night. That’s why I told [them] this morning, you know what you need to do to get ready for tomorrow… what ever you do put all our focus, all our energy on that game tomorrow night and then we’ll go from there”
The goal is pretty clear for Rick Bowness, just focus on tonight’s game against the Seattle Kraken. One likely lineup change to note, Nino Niederreiter is returning from injury, and slots back into the third line, replacing David Gustafsson.
Connor Hellebuyck gets the start in net, following his 30-save shutout in a 7-0 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday night. Hellebuyck is 1-1-0 with a 2.04 GAA and a .918 SV% against the Seattle Kraken in his career. His most recent start against the Seattle Kraken was March 5th, 2024, where Hellebuyck allowed 4 goals on 24 shots in a 4-3 loss.
Expected to be in net for the Kraken is Philipp Grubauer. His last start was in a 3-1 loss to the Dallas Stars on Saturday where he made 27 saves. Grubauer is 3-4-0 with a 3.21 GAA and a .885 SV% against the Winnipeg Jets in his career.
All time, the Jets are 6-2-0 against the Kraken. 5 out of their last 6 matchups have been decided by just a single goal. Jared McCann leads the Kraken in both goals, with 29, and points, at 61. Mark Scheifele leads the Jets this season with 70 points. Kyle Connor continues to lead the Jets with 32 goals. The puck drops tonight at 7 PM CDT at Canada Life Centre.
Jets projected lineup
Connor – Scheifele – Vilardi
Ehlers – Monahan – Toffoli
Niederreiter – Lowry – Appleton
Barron – Namestnikov – Iafallo
Morrissey – DeMelo
Dillon – Pionk
Stanley – Samberg
