This is part eight of our 20 in 20 series, where we examine twenty different line combinations in twenty days. I was originally planning on coming up with twenty different combinations myself, but as the series progressed I wanted to showcase what others were thinking from around the Jets community.

The most interesting thing about the user submissions is the vast difference in every single one. Each fan has their own unique set of ideas behind their lineup. That being said, even though the combinations are different there are some major trends that persisted throughout the submissions.

The two biggest trends between all of the user submissions are the first and fourth lines. Every single submission had Scheifele on the top line with either Laine or Wheeler on the right wing. The split was actually fairly even where half preferred Wheeler while half chose Laine.

The second largest trend was keeping the fourth line relatively intact. A lot of the submissions kept the entire TLC line together as the fourth line for the Jets. The middle six seemed to get switched around with every combination, but the fourth line almost always included Lowry and Copp.

Today’s post will only feature combinations with Laine on the right wing beside Scheifele. Next post will feature Wheeler in that position instead.

Without further ado, let’s check out some more line combinations!

Likelihood: 5/10
Fun Factor: 7/10

This combination was the only one featuring Perreault on the top line. It’s an interesting perspective and helps promote scoring throughout the whole lineup.

The second line would be solid as Little would most likely have a bounce-back season with Wheeler on the wing.

The third line would be really interesting. Lowry deserves an opportunity to play with some highly skilled linemates and Connor and Roslovic fit the bill. They would be a good trio in both the offensive or defensive end and could provide some depth scoring along the way.

The Copp line would be very fun to watch and they would be a great offensively minded fourth line.

This combination lacks a true shutdown line but it does provide a good mix of talent and defensive awareness throughout the lineup.

Fun Factor: 9/10

The contrast in this combination is striking. It has a second line with an average age of 30.33 and a third line with an average age of 21.67.

It also features two tremendously fast and skilled lines with two defensive and responsible lines. Overall, it would be a solid lineup as long as the third line could be sheltered and used in a purely offensive role.

Likelihood: 2/10
Fun Factor: 9/10

This whole lineup is extremely fast and offensive minded. Petan would finally get to play with other skilled players and be able to showcase where his true talent lies.

The third line would be really fun to watch and would be great in the offensive end. Their skating ability would out-match all opposition and would give them an offensive edge against most defensive pairings.

The fourth line would also look very different when switching out Tanev for Vesalainen. It allows Vesalainen to play with two great defensive linemates and get his feet wet without being relied on too much. His offensive skills would also benefit both Copp and Lowry. This combination would be a great way to acclimate Vesalainen to the NHL.

Likelihood: 3/10
Fun Factor: 5/10

This combination is very similar to my second suggestion with Vesalainen on the team. It balances the scoring throughout the lineup as Laine, Connor, and Ehlers are all on different lines. Lowry would get an offensive boost and might be a surprisingly strong fit between Ehlers and Roslovic.

I also really like the idea of Perreault, Copp, and Petan playing on a line together. It’s a great mix of offensive skill, defensive awareness, and being able to drive the play.

There is no reason that this combination wouldn’t work as each line has the potential to play well. The only issue is lack of familiarity as most of these players have very little history of playing with each other.
