JNGD.S8.G59 Flight Plan: Which Jersey Is Stone Wearing Tonight?

With Pierre Dorion in Winnipeg for the past few days, a trade seems inevitable between these clubs. With the Sens coming to town tonight, there is really no better time to make a deal. Give us Stone and we’ll slap a jersey on him. Heck, make the deal during the game, and let the players switch teams at the intermission. The possibilities are endless with the Sens visiting Bell MTS Place as both teams are fully encapsulated in the rumour mill.

Senators Player To Watch

#61 Mark Stone – Right Wing

It’s obvious. There’s only one player to watch for Ottawa and that’s Mark Stone. For one, he might be one to watch for the Jets, depending how quickly they can get a trade finalized and his name on a jersey. If a trade isn’t in the mix, Stone is still a phenomenal player to watch. He showcased this last weekend against the Jets as he nearly scored his first career hat-trick. He’s fantastic in his own end, but he can also score plenty of goals. Stone is an elite two way player in the NHL and is definitely the player to have an eye on in this game.

Last Senators Game

It was a back and forth game in Detroit as the Red Wings and Senators traded goals during the first half of the game. When it was 2-2, the Sens coughed up a terrible puck in their own end and Detroit was able to capitalize late in the second period. This turned out to be the game winning goal as they were unable to tie the game in the third.

Jets Player To Watch

#61 Mark Stone  – RW #48 Brendan Lemieux – LW

With the trade rumours swirling about, Brendan Lemieux has found his name at the forefront of many conversations. Most fans think he’s expendable but Lemieux himself likely wants to stay in Winnipeg. He’s in a position to really try and prove his worth or he might be used as a trade chip in the coming days. He’s currently on a winning team, and anywhere else he goes will likely be missing the playoffs, so I imagine he’s trying to stay far away from all of the rumours.

Add this to the fact that Lemieux has 9 goals on the year, including a goal last weekend against the Sens. Lemieux is always in the middle of a scrum, so he’ll be hard to miss in this one.

Last Jets Game

It definitely wasn’t the prettiest game from the Jets. Despite getting some glorious chances in the early going, they fell behind 2-0 in the first period. The managed to get one back in the first but weren’t able to solve Varlamov for the rest of the game. The Jets actually played well for the remainder of the game but they couldn’t sneak anything past Varly, who played his best game in a while. The end result was a 4-1 defeat that should have been much closer.

Jets Notes

  • It was announced after last game that Morrow sustained a lower body injury and will miss the next few weeks. Niku has been called up, but Kulikov will go back in the lineup as he’s returning from an injury of his own. Saturday morning we found out Dustin Byfuglien would be sitting out tonight’s game as well and that Sami Niku will finally see some NHL action.
  • Patrik Laine looked solid against the Avalanche last game. Ray Ferraro was doing the colour commentary and he figured Laine is poised to break out of his slump. We will have to wait and see if he does it tonight.
  • The Jets get a lengthy break after this game. They don’t play until next Wednesday when they kick off a three game road trip that takes them to Colorado, Vegas, and Arizona.
