The Winnipeg Jets announced on Wednesday afternoon that they signed college free agent forward Lucas Wahlin to a one-year, two-way contract with an average annual value (AAV) of $850,000 in the NHL.
The college standout’s contract will begin next season (2026-27), and he has signed an amateur try-out (ATO) with the Jets’ AHL affiliate, the Manitoba Moose, for the remainder of this year’s campaign.
Wahlin, 24, appeared in 36 games for the University of St. Thomas this season, recording 21 goals and 18 assists for 39 points, along with 41 penalty minutes. Wahlin, UST’s team captain since 2023-24, led his club and the CCHA in goals.
The six-foot forward was recently named the 2025-26 CCHA Student-Athlete of the Year and CCHA Defensive Forward of the Year, and was named to the All-CCHA First Team for the second consecutive year.
Wahlin, a product of Woodbury, Minnesota, concluded his college career posting 56 goals and 75 assists for 131 points in 137 games, all with the Tommies.
He reached his career high in points in the NCAA during the 2024-25 season (41), posting 17 goals and 24 assists in 38 games played. The right-shot forward was just two points shy of tying that mark this season.
Wahlin now joins a Moose club that’s fighting to get back into the Calder Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2023-24. Manitoba currently sits fourth in the Central Division (64 points), four points back of the Texas Stars (68), while the Milwaukee Admirals are just three points back (61). The Moose continue their four-game road trip on Friday in Belleville and have just 12 regular-season games remaining.
