The Winnipeg Jets have re-signed restricted free agent forward Morgan Barron to a two-year contract worth an average annual value of $1.85 million.
Barron, 26, was one of three Jets players to file for salary arbitration this offseason, along with forward Gabriel Vilardi and defenceman Dylan Samberg, who both remain unsigned. With Barronâs deal finalized, the Jets are one step closer to settling their internal roster decisions before the new season.
The Halifax native has been a full-time member of the Jets since the 2022â23 season after being acquired from the New York Rangers in March 2022 in the trade that sent Andrew Copp the other way. Since joining Winnipeg, Barron has carved out a role as a reliable bottom-six forward, known for his work ethic and forechecking ability.
In 2023â24, Barron posted eight goals and seven assists for 15 points in 74 regular season games. He added two assists in the postseason, helping the Jets reach the second round before falling to the Dallas Stars. The previous season, he tallied career highs in assists (13) and points (21) over 70 games. A lower-body injury prevented him from participating in the 2024 playoffs.
Over his five-year NHL career, Barron has played in 256 regular-season games, registering 60 points (30 goals, 30 assists), and has appeared in 18 playoff contests.
With Barron locked in, the Jets have just over $15.6 million in projected cap space for the 2025â26 season, per CapWages. The focus now shifts to getting Vilardi and Samberg under contract. Once those deals are done, general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff could have some flexibility to make additional moves and round out the roster ahead of the 2025-26 campaign, as the Jets look to replicate their 2024â25 Presidentsâ Trophyâwinning season.
