The Winnipeg Jets prospects are back in action this afternoon against the Ottawa Senators prospects. The mini two game tournament concludes with tonight’s 6 pm CT puck drop. Last night’s game was a thrilling show in front of a near sold out crowd at the Bell Centre in Montreal. Colby Barlow, the Jets 1st round pick from the 2023 NHL Draft, gave the Jets their first lead of the night.
Jets prospects Chase Yoder scored a highlight reel goal, and Danny Zhilkin scored two goals on the night including the game winning goal with 25 seconds remaining to give the Jets prospects a 4-3 win. Jets goaltender Domenic DiVincentiis looked impressive throughout this game, ending the night with 38 saves and the victory.
Tonight’s game (also at the Bell Centre in Montreal) will be another chance for the Jets prospects to showcase their talents in front of a large crowd. Many Jets prospects commented on the atmosphere last night post game, including Chase Yoder who said it was “a tough atmosphere to go into your first game of the year [but also] a lot of fun and probably one of the coolest games of my career”. Even if it’s “only” a prospect showdown game, you know the hockey loving fans in Montreal will come out to the Bell Centre to cheer on their Canadiens.
The Jets head coach for this showdown Mark Morrison was impressed that the team kept battling hard despite being down 2-0 at one point. Morrison said post game that “the impressive part for me [was] their battle level and their compete level to get back into the game”. You could tell just from watching that this game was special for the players even if it was for some of them their first game in 3+ months.
In injury news, Jets 6th round pick from the 2024 NHL draft Kieron Walton unfortunately had to leave the game in the 1st period after being on the receiving end of a big hit. Walton will be unavailable for tonight’s game, but his twin brother Conor Walton will be entering the lineup. Conor is a defenceman that has spent his last two junior seasons playing in the OHL with the Windsor Spitfires.
Tonight’s full lineup is now available below, and coach Mark Morrison said that he wants to give everyone a chance to play. Alex Worthington will be the Jets starting goalie, and you can expect to see a bunch of other new and familiar prospects in the lineup for tonight’s game. Stay tuned for details on the lineup for tonight’s game, and tune in at WinnipegJets.com at 6 pm CT to watch the future of the Winnipeg Jets in action!
