The Winnipeg Jets have announced another signing on day one of free agency, adding veteran forward Phil Di Giuseppe on a one-year, two-way contract. The deal carries an average annual value (AAV) of $775,000 at the NHL level and provides the Jets with an experienced, versatile depth piece as they look to strengthen their bottom six heading into the 2025–26 season.
Di Giuseppe, 30, spent the past three seasons with the Vancouver Canucks organization, splitting time between the NHL club and its AHL affiliate, the Abbotsford Canucks. In 2024–25, the Toronto native appeared in 20 NHL games with Vancouver, registering one goal and averaging 11:34 of ice time. He also played a key role in Abbotsford’s Calder Cup championship run, contributing six goals and five assists over 24 playoff games.
Standing six feet tall and weighing 192 pounds, Di Giuseppe is known for his strong work ethic, effective forechecking, and responsible two-way game. While not a known goal scorer, he brings a high motor and veteran presence to any lineup he’s part of. His ability to play both wings and slide up and down the lineup makes him an ideal call-up option or 13th forward — especially in a long NHL season where injuries are inevitable.
Over the course of his nine-year NHL career, Di Giuseppe has suited up for 302 games, tallying 28 goals and 53 assists for 81 points. Originally drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the second round (38th overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft, he’s also had stints with the Nashville Predators and New York Rangers, in addition to his most recent time in Vancouver.
For the Jets, this move continues a trend of adding low-risk, depth forwards who can compete for roster spots or bolster the Manitoba Moose if needed. With the departures of several depth players and questions still lingering around the fourth line and extra forward positions, Di Giuseppe gives Winnipeg another NHL-tested option who can step in when called upon.
While it’s unlikely he’ll play a major offensive role, his recent success at the AHL level and his steady, physical style of play make him a potential asset in games where energy and forecheck pressure are needed. And given the Jets’ commitment to building out their organizational depth, Di Giuseppe fits the mold of a player who could become a valuable piece during the grind of the regular season.
The signing adds another layer of flexibility to Winnipeg’s forward group and reinforces the organization’s focus on experienced, adaptable players heading into next year.
