Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has been named a finalist for the Vezina Trophy as the league’s best goaltender.
Hellebuyck had a tremendous season for the Jets posting a 31-21-5 record with a .922 save percentage and six shutouts.
He had a tremendous season for the Jets and was a major reason as to why the Jets had the success they did this year. With a depleted back-end this year, there were talks that the team would have a poor season.
Instead, Hellebuyck put the team on his back and helped drag the Jets into the league’s play-in tournament. Sure, the Jets had some great contributions upfront, but without Hellebuyck’s stellar play in net things could’ve been bad.
By season’s end, he finished second in wins, was tied for the most games played by a goalie with Montreal’s Carey Price and had a league-high six shutouts. His 22.40 goals saved above-average ranked second behind only Tukka Rask’s 22.51.
Boston Bruins’ Rask and Tampa Bay Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy were also named as Vezina finalists.
