Two power-play goals against proved costly in the Winnipeg Jets‘ 3-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday, leaving the Jets with a clear area to clean up when they visit the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday, October 20. Both clubs are 2-3 over their last five games, and the Blues also come off a 5-2 defeat to the Nashville Predators on October 17.
St. Louis opens a five-game homestand tonight. The Blues have a golden opportunity to get something going at home after two straight losses to wrap up their most recent three-game road trip.
Tale of the Tape
Winnipeg’s power play is at 30 percent, third in the NHL, and St. Louis’s penalty kill sits at 84 percent, ninth league-wide. The Jets have been converting their opportunities, but breaking through against the Blues’ PK presents a challenge.
The Blues’ official game notes offered an interesting note on the special-teams battle between the two Central Division foes: St. Louis has killed 12 of Winnipeg’s 14 power play opportunities across their previous seven meetings.
A big part of the Blues’ power play is 22-year-old Jimmy Snuggerud, who supplied a quick response against Nashville, scoring on the power play just 31 seconds after the Blues conceded a shorthanded goal on Saturday night.
Mark Scheifele has 20 goals and 31 assists in 48 career games against St. Louis, while Robert Thomas has five goals and eight assists with points in nine of his last 10 games against Winnipeg. Dylan Holloway has added three goals and two assists in his last four meetings with the Jets. Those opponent-specific numbers, also highlighted in the Blues’ preview, give Winnipeg familiar names to lean on and watch closely, rather than a reason to expect the same scoring pattern tonight.
Thomas and Holloway give the Jets more to account for than Snuggerud’s shooting on the power play. Winnipeg needs to pair a better penalty-killing effort with responsible coverage at even strength, rather than relying on its own power play to make up the difference.
Projected starting goalies and lineup notes
Stuart Skinner is the Jets’ confirmed starter tonight, according to Daily Faceoff’s starting goalies page. Joel Hofer is confirmed to start for St. Louis.
Winnipeg Jets lineup notes

The Jets list Garrett Brown out with a lower-body injury, Josh Morrissey out with an upper-body injury, and Vladislav Namestnikov out with an undisclosed injury.
For St. Louis, Dillon Dubé (neck), Ross Johnston (lower body), Torey Krug (ankle), Logan Mailloux (hand), Alexey Toropchenko (upper body), and Tyler Tucker (knee) are listed out. Adam Jecho is out for personal reasons.
The Blues’ official preview says Connor Hellebuyck requested a trade during the offseason, did not report to training camp, and has been on a team-sanctioned suspension.
Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. CT (8 p.m. EDT) on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at Enterprise Center in St. Louis.
