The Winnipeg Jets have opened the second round by drafting Swedish winger Daniel Torgersson 40th overall.
Torgersson stands at 6’3, 205 lbs. and played the majority of last season with Frölunda in the J20 SuperElit league. There, he scored 26 goals and 44 points in 39 games.
This year the winger has played for Frölunda in the J20 Nationell league scoring four goals and as many points in eight games, also appearing in two SHL games scoring no points.
Here’s what the scouts have to say about Torgersson:
He’s a good skater for his size, with a powerful push to his stride. He’s so well-balanced on his skates, and just incredibly hard to knock off of the puck. Torgersson has great timing in his movements as he adjusts to the defenders and the puck-carrier to open passing lanes. He’s excellent at finding open space in or around the slot to give himself enough time to shoot. –EliteProspectsTorgersson is a big power winger who makes his living in front of the net. He’s not only big but also very strong on his skates, making it very difficult to move him. – DobberProspects“He’s an above-average skater from a standstill and he’s got some skill too. Plus, he’s a penalty killer who works hard at 5-on-5 to win back possession and make the right play.” – Scott Wheeler, The Athletic
