While Winnipeg Jets regular season hockey is still 22 days away, their NHL Training Camp begins tomorrow morning, Thursday, September 17th. It’s an exciting time of the hockey year, as fans around the league will get to hear about their favourite players returning to the ice with their teammates. Hockey season is officially back, and Jets fans have plenty to look forward to as the team gets ready for their 2025-26 season.
If you’ve been keeping up with the Jets news last week, the team announced their training camp schedule and their initial 55 player roster. Of course this is just standard procedure from every NHL team before training camp begins, but it’s interesting to see the new and even unfamiliar names on the roster. These names include unsigned draft picks and other free agents who were invited by the Jets to attend their training camp. Earlier this morning (Wednesday), the Jets announced how they will be dividing their roster up (into 3 groups) ahead of day 1 of training camp tomorrow morning.
Group 1: Skating at 9:45 AM CT (September 18th)
Group one includes Connor Hellebuyck and Dom DiVincentiis in goal. The defencemen will be Neal Pionk, Colin Miller, Dylan Samberg, Kale Clague, Ethan Firsch and Dylan Anhorn. Rounding out this group are the forwards: Gabriel Vilardi, Mason Shaw, Morgan Barron, Cole Koepke, Daniel Zhilkin, Mark Scheifele, Fabian Wagner, Tanner Pearson and Kyle Connor. This is a well rounded group featuring veterans and prospects which will make for a fairly competitive group to watch.
Group 2: Skating at 11:45 AM CT (September 18th)
Group two starts out with Eric Comrie and Thomas Milic in net. The players on the blue line will be Dylan DeMelo, Isaak Philips, Ville Heinola, Josh Morrissey, Ashton Sautner and Tyrel Bauer. The forwards for this second group are as follows: Gustav Nyquist, Jonathan Toews, Parker Ford, Jaret Anderson-Dolan, David Gustafsson, Colby Barlow, Walker Duehr, Owen Martin, Cole Perfetti and Brad Lambert. This group is overall a younger batch than group one, and it features an intriguing mix of new additions, promising prospects, and some impactful AHL players.
Group 3: Skating at 1:30 PM CT (September 18th)
Group three will conclude day 1 of training camp with Isaac Poulter and Alex Worthington between the pipes. Defending the zone will be Luke Schenn, Haydn Fleury, Elias Salomonsson, Logan Stanley, Edison Engle and Dawson Barteaux. Last but not least are the forwards: Vladislav Namestnikov, Alex Iafallo, Samuel Fagemo, Brayden Yager, Kevin He, Nino Niederreiter, Jacob Julien, Jacob Cloutier, Phil Di Giuseppe and Nikita Chibrikov. This final group has a little bit of everything, and of the three groups I think this will be the most competitive in terms of names that are battling for a roster spot.
One player of note who is not listed in any of the three groups is Adam Lowry. The Jets Captain continues to recover and rehab from his offseason hip surgery. Lowry has slowing started to skate on his own, but he’s not ready to be involved in a full team skate as of today. Another player who you might be wondering about is Kieron Walton, the Jet who was injured on Saturday night in the Prospect Showdown, whose status remains uncertain. Stay tuned for all of the news and details from the first day of the Winnipeg Jets 2025 NHL Training Camp!
