The Winnipeg Jets pulled off a thrilling 5–3 comeback win over the St. Louis Blues in Game 1, with a massive third-period push leading the way. But in the playoffs, there’s no time to relax—momentum has to be earned every night. As the Jets gear up for Game 2 on Monday, here are three key things they’ll need to focus on to keep the edge in this series.
1 – Keep the Connor-Scheifele connection rolling
Kyle Connor and Mark Scheifele were buzzing in Game 1. Each of them had a goal and two assists, and it was Connor’s late one-timer that sealed the deal. These two have found serious chemistry, and when they’re on, they’re one of the deadliest duos in the league. If they stay hot, it gives Winnipeg a major offensive advantage.
2 – Match the Blues’ physicality and stay out of the box
The Blues brought the heat physically, out-hitting the Jets 32–14 in the first period. St. Louis wants to drag this series into a grind, but Winnipeg can’t get bullied—and they can’t afford to take careless penalties either. The Blues struck on the power play in Game 1 twice, so staying disciplined while bringing a stronger pushback is key.
3 – Lock things down defensively in front of Hellebuyck
The Jets did a great job limiting the Blues to just two shots in the third period, but earlier in the game there were some lapses—especially in the second period where the Blues took control. If Winnipeg can tighten up defensively for the full 60 and clear rebounds in front of Hellebuyck, they’ll be in good shape.
Game 2 is set for Monday night at Canada Life Centre. A win would give the Jets a commanding 2–0 lead and even more confidence heading into St. Louis. The formula is there—it’s just about executing it again.
