Once again, the Winnipeg Jets got a game winning goal from Kyle Connor, this time being in the third period to beat the St. Louis Blues 2-1 at Canada Life Centre, and to take a commanding 2-0 series lead to St. Louis. Mark Scheifele had the other goal and added an assist on Connor’s goal while Connor Hellebuyck made 21 saves. The Jets only let up 5 shots in the final frame to lock down another win.
Physical 1st period
In Game 1, St. Louis brought the physicality in the opening frame. This time, both teams brought the same energy. In total, there were 32 hits thrown in the opening frame, 16 for each team, including this absolute monster of a hit Logan Stanley laid on Jordan Kyrou.
Connor with another game winner
Kyle Connor was the hero on Saturday night with the game winner with just 1:36 remaining in the game. Now last night he scored the winner 1:43 into the third period. The play began behind the Blues net when Cole Perfetti wasted no time with a quick pass to Connor who was left uncovered in the slot, and his shot went right through Jordan Binnington, making the Canada Life Centre crowd go wild.
Strong penalty kill
In Game 1 the Jets gave up two power play goals and then in Game 2 they gave up one with just under two seconds left in the opening frame, when Jimmy Snuggerud tied it 1-1. But after that buzzer beater, Winnipeg shut down one of the best power plays in the NHL since the 4 Nations Face-Off break. They only allowed three shots on two Blues power plays in the middle frame, and then when they were up 2-1 in the third period, St. Louis didn’t register a single shot on their last power play of the night.
Up next
Winnipeg will now travel to St. Louis as they prepare for Game 3 on Thursday night at the Enterprise Center. Puck drop for that game is at 8:30 p.m. CT, and the game will be available to watch on SNW.
