The Winnipeg Jets were blanked for the third time this season on Sunday afternoon, falling 3-0 to Jesper Wallstedt and the Minnesota Wild. Danila Yurov, Brock Faber, and Kirill Kaprizov scored for Minnesota, while Wallstedt turned aside all 32 shots he faced. Eric Comrie made 27 saves in the loss for Winnipeg.

Good start

The Jets actually opened the game on the right foot, outshooting Minnesota 6-0 over the first seven minutes. They generated looks, but Wallstedt, who was dialed in from the start, turned everything aside. Winnipeg finished the first period ahead 9-7 in shots, and from a fan perspective, it didn’t feel like a bad start at all. They simply couldn’t finish, and that theme carried through the rest of the afternoon. The Jets went 0-for-4 on the power play and recorded 13 high-danger chances at 5-on-5, per Natural Stat Trick, but came up empty.

Another shorthanded goal

After giving up a shorthanded goal on Friday against Carolina, the Jets surrendered another one today. This time, Winnipeg had set up in the offensive zone when Kyle Connor turned the puck over along the boards, springing Minnesota on a 3-on-2. Faber joined as the trailer, Connor’s responsibility, but Connor got caught puck-watching. Faber took a feed in the slot and ripped it past Comrie, giving the Wild a 2-0 lead late in the second.

Scheifele reaches 900 GP

Despite the loss, Jets assistant captain Mark Scheifele hit a major milestone. Winnipeg’s first-ever draft pick in the 2.0 era reached 900 NHL games played. He now sits just 50 games behind original Jets captain Thomas Steen for the most games played in a Jets uniform, a mark he could realistically reach this season.
Winnipeg now heads on the road for five straight games, beginning Wednesday in Washington against Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals. Puck drop is at 6:00 p.m. CST on Sportsnet West.
