The Winnipeg Jets looked to get back into the win column Friday night in San Jose, but instead dropped their second straight game, a 2-1 regulation loss to the Sharks at SAP Center.
Namestnikov hits 800-game milestone
Jets veteran forward Vladislav Namestnikov reached the 800-game milestone Friday night in San Jose. The Russian forward’s six goals are the most he’s scored through the first 13 games of a season, already putting him over a quarter of the way to his career-high 20 goals.
Hellebuyck keeps the Jets in it
There’s no question this game would’ve been out of reach if not for the play of Connor Hellebuyck. The Jets’ goaltender faced numerous odd-man rushes, including a few breakaways, and stood tall to keep Winnipeg within striking distance all game long.
Hellebuyck stopped 25 of 27 shots for a .926 save percentage (SV%), earning Third Star of the Game honours.
“We had some looks, we had some opportunities,” said Scott Arniel. “But it has to be when you’re chasing in our end of the rink, like we were, getting beat on battles, making your goaltender make as many Grade A stops as he had to make, you’re not getting rewarded when you do that.”
Celebrini stays red-hot
The Sharks’ 19-year-old superstar Macklin Celebrini continues to live up to the hype. He entered the night tied for the NHL scoring lead with 20 points and wasted no time adding to that total. After Josh Morrissey opened the scoring for Winnipeg, Celebrini responded with a breakaway goal to tie the game 1-1. He later assisted on Will Smith’s game-winner in the third period, pushing his league-leading totals to 23 points.
Winnipeg will look to pick up its first win of the trip Sunday night in Anaheim against the Ducks at Honda Center. Puck drop is set for 9:00 p.m. CST and you can watch the game on TSN3.
