The Winnipeg Jets went into Vancouver Tuesday night carrying plenty of weight after dropping the first three games of their season-long six-game road trip. But this time, they stayed calm and composed, sneaking away with a much-needed 5-3 win over the Canucks at Rogers Arena.

Offence finds its legs

Through the first three games of the trip, Winnipeg managed just two goals total, but their offence finally broke through in the opening frame, scoring three times on Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko.
Jonathan Toews opened the scoring to make it 1-0, Josh Morrissey tied it 2-2 on the power play with a rocket from the point, and just 15 seconds later, Nino Niederreiter restored the Jets’ lead at 3-2.
There was no scoring in the second period, but less than a minute into the third, Winnipeg struck again on the power play. Gabriel Vilardi showed off a slick no-look backhand that beat Kevin Lankinen, who replaced Demko after the first, to make it 4-2. The Jets would hold on for a 5-3 victory.

Iafallo reaches 600 GP

Alex Iafallo hit a milestone on Tuesday, suiting up for his 600th NHL game. The Eden, New York native’s journey is even more impressive considering he entered the league undrafted. Iafallo capped his night with an empty-net goal to seal the win, plus an assist on Niederreiter’s goal.

Morrissey moves past Little on franchise assists list

Josh Morrissey continues to climb the Jets’ all-time ranks. His helper on Toews’ opening goal marked his 305th career assist, moving him past Bryan Little for fourth on the franchise’s all-time assists list. Morrissey now trails only Kyle Connor, Mark Scheifele, and Blake Wheeler.
Game No. 5 of the Jets’ six-game road trip goes Thursday night in Seattle against the Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena. Puck drop is set for 9:00 p.m. CST on TSN3.
